When Ford unveiled its brand-new Mustang Mach-E, an all-electric sporty crossover SUV, Ford fans weren’t too pleased by it. On social media, many Ford fans talked about their anger at Ford over the Mustang Mach-E, but the dealerships disagree with the fans. Here’s what a Ford dealership just a few miles away from Tesla’s HQ in Silicon Valley has to say about the Mustang Mach-E and Tesla.

The reservations are full

As Ford Authority mentioned, Ford says that the first edition of the Mustang Mach-E has already been sold-out thanks to folks who’ve already reserved one. Ford doesn’t give out any specifics about how many reservations have already been made, just that the first edition of the electric SUV has been sold-out.

That said, Ford Authority also says that the more expensive trims of the Mustang Mach-E are still available for reservations. In particular, the Premium Edition and the GT trim are still available for reservations. However, customers ordering the Mustang Mach-E aren’t just buying them plain, most customers are adding on options.

For instance, Ford Authority says that 80% of all reservations for the Mustang Mach-E chose the Extended Range battery for their electric SUV, and 55% gave their Mustang Mach-E all-wheel drive. These are not the only facts that we know about the Mach-E’s sales.

The Mustang Mach-E in Silicon Valley

Sunnyvale Ford, a Ford dealership that’s located in Silicon Valley and a few miles away from Tesla’s HQ, spoke to Ford Authority about how the Mustang Mach-E has been selling. According to Sunnyvale Ford, the response by Californian customers to the Mustang Mach-E has been nothing short of spectacular.

Simply said, Ford fans tend to be very attached to the Ford brand. So, when Ford unveiled the Mustang Mach-E, many Ford fans finally felt like Ford’s heard their thoughts and have delivered a car that’s exactly what they want. As a result, Sunnyvale Ford says that there have been over 100 reservations for the Mustang Mach-E already.

The Mustang Mach-E is a game-changer for electric cars, according to Sunnyvale Ford. In fact, one customer said that he “didn’t trust Tesla,” so the Mustang Mach-E became his car of choice when it was finally revealed.

Stories like that of Sunnyvale Ford’s aren’t uncommon either. California has a big market for electric cars, and Ford Authority even says that Californians reserved 25% of all Mustang Mach-Es.

And this Mustang Mach-E boom isn’t happening just in California either. Ford Authority also mentions that a Ford dealership in Michigan has been getting a lot of reservations for the electric SUV too. As a result, it’s very likely that dealerships from elsewhere in the country have been getting good business thanks to the Mustang Mach-E.

The Ford Mach-E versus Tesla

The success of the Mach-E seems to be signaling a new great battle between automakers. Ford, like many automakers, is making inroads into the electric car market. Tesla is obviously the top dog of electric cars, but unlike many other automakers, Ford seems willing to fight Tesla for market share over the electric car market.

Ford unveiled a prototype electric F-150 in the summer of 2019, and then Tesla unveiled its much-anticipated Cybertruck in the fall of 2019. Tesla already has its luxury Model X SUV, and the Mustang Mach-E seems like a direct competitor to that.

This comparison goes on and on, and as Ford unveils more brand-new models, it seems poised to challenge Tesla in almost every segment of the car market. This competition should be good, as it will make both companies want to try to one-up each other. And for the consumers, that just means better electric cars for everyone.
