It’s easy to build out the subcompact SUV you want as most come with options, features, and packages to customize your ride. But usually, the best features are considered optional and come at a price. When Kelley Blue Book reviewed the SUVs in this space, they took into consideration a host of aspects, including the features that come standard and as part of the base trim levels.

The Hyundai Kona gives the best subcompact SUV value for your money

This little SUV earns top value rankings with KBB for the second consecutive year. The stylish crossover has a look of its own with fender flares that say, ‘adventurer’ and its angular headlights that say, ‘sporty and fun.’ There are tons of upgrade features at the SEL, SEL Plus, Limited, and Ultimate trim levels, but you’ll be satisfied with the standard equipment with the SE as well.

The Hyundai Kona comes standard with a 2.0L four-cylinder engine, offering 147 hp and 132 lb-ft of torque. The Kona is also paired with the six-speed automatic transmission and comes with front-wheel drive. Other SE features include alloy wheels, remote keyless entry, a six-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, a 7-inch touchscreen, and both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

Standard safety and driver assistance features

The 2020 Hyundai Kona comes with a ton of must-have driver aids. Even the base SE model comes standard with a rearview camera, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist. Safety is at the forefront for this subcompact SUV; the IIHS cited excellent performance and gave the Hyundai Kona its Top Safety Pick designation.

Value at any subcompact SUV budget

What’s more impressive about the family of standard amenities, impressive styling, and safety features is the ability to configure the perfect Hyundai Kona for almost any budget. Pricing starts at $21,195, and even the well-equipped model can be purchased for just under $30,000. This range makes the Kona appealing for younger buyers on a budget, though buyers of any age will appreciate the cost savings. Adding to the value in the purchase price, the Hyundai Kona tends to hold its resale value better than most too.

Impressive warranty coverages add value

The overall cost of ownership also plays a role in determining a vehicle’s value. For the 2020 Hyundai Kona, buyers will have some of the most generous warranty coverages to help offset future repairs and maintenance. There is a limited warranty that covers five years or 60,000 miles. The powertrain warranty offers coverage for ten years or 100,000 miles, and there is also a complimentary maintenance warranty for the first three years and 36,000 miles.

The 2020 Hyundai Kona continues to deliver with exceptional standard features, top-notch safety, and generous warranties. You can have it all neatly packaged at an affordable price point too. When it comes to value, the Hyundai Kona is at the head of the subcompact SUV class. Kelley Blue Book thinks so, and you probably will too.
