Do you ever feel like a car is following you? Well, in California, thieves followed a semi-truck for 300 miles, just waiting for the perfect time to strike. They ended up stealing $100 worth of jewelry. It was the largest jewelry heist in United States history.

Thieves follow a truck for 300 miles to steal $100 million in jewelry

For over three years, seven thieves thought they got away with stealing $100 million worth of jewelry from a semi-truck in California.

They took Rolex watches, emerald rings, gold necklaces, and more in a matter of minutes. Plus, the heist didn’t have any witnesses. But federal authorities recently announced charges for men in connection to the theft.

The crew saw a Brinks truck being loaded with treasure in San Mateo, just south of San Francisco. They decided to wait for the right time to strike and followed the tractor-trailer for 300 miles.

The drivers of the semi-truck were two armed security guards who stopped at a gas station in the unincorporated community of Lebec. It’s 70 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

One guard was asleep and the other entered the gas station for food. When he returned 30 minutes later around 2:30 AM, the trailer’s rear lock was cut. The thieves got 73 bags of jewelry without waking the sleeping guard.

According to USA Today, they suddenly vanished and even deactivated their phone numbers to cover their tracks. Investigators found them via cellphone records, gas station surveillance footage, and by recovering stolen jewelry at shows.

The thieves were also connected to heists involving Apple products from a semi-truck and the robbery of a semi-truck filled with Samsung electronics.
