The Toyota Tacoma Is a Jouncy Ride But it Totally Doesn’t Matter

The Toyota Tacoma compact pickup truck is a favorite among both Toyota fans and lovers of the compact pickup. While it’s capable of climbing and trail riding, it’s been said that the 2020 Tacoma pickup truck isn’t exactly the most comfortable driving experience. It really doesn’t matter, however.

The Tacoma pickup has a loving fanbase. Plus, it’s an ultra capable rock crawler. Maybe it’s a little bouncy or loud on pavement, but who cares? It’s a Toyota Tacoma. The little compact pickup that could and can do just about anything you need it too.

Consumer Reports is, overall, a fan of the 2020 Toyota Tacoma compact pickup truck. Though some models have had issues, it’s generally a good truck. It’s a reliable compact pickup truck with a lot of trim options, including TRD Off-Road upgrades for ultimate rock crawling ability.

“Though the truck is tough as nails and delivers impressive off-road prowess, it’s primitive. The ride is stiff, and handling is ponderous.”

CR notes that it’s a workhorse with a solid and durable chassis designed to withstand the test of time. It also has a desirable composite pickup bed. However, when it comes to driving on pavement, CR says the “Tacoma drives like a primitive, agricultural-era relic.”

In the J.D. Power expert review, it’s a similar verdict. Their tester Toyota Tacoma compact pickup truck with the Premium TRD Off-Road package made an overall good impression. Yet, the ride is bouncy and a little old school.

“On pavement, the ride is busy and often jittery. Steering input is more a suggestion than a command. The TRD Off-Road’s P265/70R16 tires fold over and howl if you take a corner too fast. And thanks to the Tacoma’s yester-tech rear drum brakes, the brake pedal is touchy and difficult to modulate for smooth, consistent stops.”

Still, according to J.D. Power’s data, owners want it drive the way it does, because it drives like a truck. This compact pickup isn’t trying to be something it’s not. And that’s something that Tacoma pickup truck buyers appreciate.

Who buys the Toyota Tacoma?

One interesting fact about the Toyota Tacoma, J.D. Power reports, is that more women buy the Tacoma than men. These buyers love the Tacoma for its capability off-road, its modern technology, and its stylish exterior looks. No one seems to care about the bumpy “jittery” drive experience. One thing worth noting is that owners aren’t necessarily mad about the fuel economy of the 2020 Toyota Tacoma compact pickup truck, but an improvement would be welcome.
