The Toyota Land Cruiser will last forever

According to iSeeCars, the Toyota Land Cruiser is the longest-lasting vehicle. It’s not just the longest-lasting SUV, but it outlasts cars and trucks too. It leads the way on their list of vehicles that are most likely to reach 200,000 miles.

They calculated this data by analyzing over 15.8 million vehicles sold in 2019 to determine which models consist of the highest percentage of options that make it to 200,000 miles or more.

The average percent of SUVs late last to 200,000 miles is 0.9%. However, the Toyota Land Cruiser makes up 15.7-percent of the vehicles that have reached 200,000 miles, so it’s above average for lasting forever.

Is the Land Cruiser a reliable SUV?

Yes, according to Consumer Reports, the 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser is very reliable. They gave it a score of four out of five for its predicted reliability score. That is an above-average score that rival SUVs like the Chevy Tahoe have failed to earn.

The predicted reliability score is based on owner experiences. Consumer Reports surveys thousands of vehicle owners, allowing them to report issues about their rides to provide reliable information.

Usually, a model has about 200 to 400 samples that identify problems and assess their severity based on cost, failure, safety, and downtime. Sometimes older or less popular models do not provide a large enough sample size for confident results.

Which Toyota Land Cruiser model years are the worst?

Thanks to Car Complaints, we can see which Toyota Land Cruiser model years have the most issues, so you can avoid picking a lemon. However, a majority of models have an extremely low amount of issues reported. That isn’t exactly surprising for such a reliable model.

The 2008 Land Cruiser has the most problems, with a total of 15 issues reported. Seven of the complaints are related to seat belt and airbag problems. Drivers were notified that there was a recall for their vehicles due to defective Takata airbags, but it exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the repairs to occur.

Due to a part shortage, drivers had to use loaner vehicles. One person was without their Land Cruiser for about two months before this dangerous issue was fixed. There was also a recall because the passenger seat belt was determined to be faulty.

Watch out for the 2011 Land Cruiser. It has a total of seven complaints. The most common problems are involved with the engine. Drivers reported that their engines would randomly stall, and it became difficult to accelerate to higher speeds.

Another driver popped their hood to discover that coolant had sprayed all over the hood. They found a crack in their radiator. This was pretty serious because if the coolant landed on hot surfaces, it could have caused a fire.

The 2016 Toyota Land Cruiser has a total of six problems reported. How scandalous! The most common issue is related to the transmission, which received three complaints. Drivers experience rough shifting and an annoying vibration when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear or 3rd to 4th. One driver had their transmission software updated, but it didn’t solve the problem.
