Every single year, car enthusiasts wait with bated breath as the manufacturers debut new vehicles. While there are often innovative technology changes that make the vehicle more fuel-efficient, powerful, or fun to drive, the overall appearance of the vehicles never seems to vary much.

When it comes to the luxury sedan market, there’s one exception. While the 2021 Genesis G80 has some of the sleek lines other luxury sedans feature, changes made to the front grille and headlights make it look like an appealing “chonky boi” in comparison to similar vehicles. It’s a look many drivers love. Many drivers feel that this is a car that’s worth waiting for.

What is the Genesis G80?

Hyundai created the Genesis G80 to be a luxury sedan that appealed to up-and-coming business people who wanted a car that was both easy to drive, comfortable to ride in, and that would impress clients. The 2021 model is a second-generation Genesis G80 (the second generation was originally introduced via live stream in March 2020.) Drivers who like the Mercedes-Benz E-Class vehicles and BMW’s 5 Series will want to take a close look at the 2021 Genesis G80.

Driving the 2021 Genesis G80

Kyle Edward, a reporter for Forbes seemed to enjoy his test drive in the 2021 Genesis G80.

“On the other hand, the 3.5-liter V6 twin-turbo boosts power to 375 hp and gets the wheels spinning with 391 lb-ft of torque. With just a 4-mpg combined penalty, the V6 is quicker to respond on heavy throttle input and pulls its weight throughout the rev range,” Edwards wrote in his Forbes review. “The extra dose of power gets the driver in a position to engage the paddle shifters and enjoy a more aggressive run. The 3.5T engine uses an 8-speed automatic gearbox to deliver power and does so quickly and smoothly.”

The 2021 Genesis G80 models are designed with two different engine choices. While some of the vehicles are equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder turbo many drivers seem to favor the 3.5-liter V6 turbo which provides significantly more power.

The Genesis G80 is equipped with all sorts of technology that makes driving both fun and safe. Drivers will hardly notice the bumps and potholes they encounter on their daily drive thanks to the vehicle’s electronically controlled suspension. The system is equipped with a camera that scans the road, reading the terrain and making instantaneous adjustments.

The vehicle is also equipped with a brand new blind-spot collision avoidance program that significantly reduces the risk of you getting into an accident while changing lanes on the highway.

Drivers will have no trouble viewing information on the optional infotainment center which has a 9.2-inch fully customizable screen.

This luxury sedan’s unique style

The interesting thing about the 2021 Genesis G80 is that while many vehicles are becoming sleeker and more sporty looking, Hyundai took a different approach. The G80 is like a blast from the past. The vehicle’s profile triggers memories of the ’40s sedans. The style change is delighting many drivers who like having all the bells and whistles technology has to offer but prefer the heavier, more solid appearance of cars that were designed several decades ago.

Frank Markus, who reviewed the 2021 Genesis G80 for MotorTrend noticed that the vehicle’s face-mask grille seems massive in comparison to similar vehicles. He also noted the ear-strap headlights.

The overall design gives the 2021 Genesis a “chonky boi” appearance that helps it stand out from all the other sedans currently on the market, and that’s backed by its actual weight of over 100 pounds more than competing vehicles.

Drivers have three different 2021 Genesis G80 trim options. They are the 3.8, 3.3T Sport, and 5.0. Prices range from $42,550 to $60,000.
