ATVs are some of the most fun motorized vehicles. Ever. They also lend some extra power to daily farm and yard chores. There are some pretty well-recognized ATV and side-by-side brands like Honda, Polaris, and Can-Am. But which ones are the most popular ATV and UTV brands of all?

Which market sells the most ATVs?

In 2020 the North American market (United States, Canada, and Mexico) had a very successful year in terms of sales. In fact, according to MotorCycles Data, the ATV and UTV global market crested 0.7 million units sold last year. North American buyers purchased most of those.

Following the North American market, China comes in second place. The European market share is down 31%. Almost half the number of ATV and UTV units sold in Europe this year than five years ago. In addition to these statistics, we also see a positive trend in both Australia, the Middle East, and in Africa. So which brands sold the most units?

What are the most popular ATV brands?

When it comes to side-by-sides (UTVs) and quads (ATVs) there are plenty of options. Especially since China started producing ATV brands, we’ve seen a growing diversity in the sales space for ATVs and UTVs. But what are the most popular ATV and UTV brands?

Taking a place in the top three are two Asian brands. Linhai, a Chinese ATV and UTV brand, takes the third spot in terms of global sales statistics. Then, unsurprisingly, we see Honda on the podium. The most popular brand that sold the most units in 2020 is Polaris. Considering that these products are made in America, it makes sense when you consider the fact that the North American market sells more four-wheelers and side-by-sides than anywhere else on earth. It’s no surprise that Polaris is the most popular ATV and UTV brand in the world.

Other brands in the top 10

There are several other brands in the top 10 for 2020 UTV and ATV sales. Among them are two more North American brands. Both Arctic Cat and Can-Am are leading brands for these exciting off-road vehicles.

There are other well-known brands in the top ten as well. Yamaha and Kawasaki are household names when it comes to Japanese-made ATV and UTV products. But the Chinese market for quads and side-by-sides is heating up.

There are also 3 Chinese ATV and UTV brands in the top 10 for global sales. CF Moto, Runtong, and Hisun all made it on the list. While some North American buyers tend to shy away from Chinese all-terrain machines, not everyone does. So it’s not exactly shocking to see that four Chinese brands are in the top 10 with Linhai taking a podium spot.

Sales in 2021

While it’s difficult to say where things will go after finishing only the first quarter of 2021, we think the upward trend in China, North America, Australia, the Middle East, and Africa are likely to continue. The pandemic has encouraged this type of buying. Especially here in North America, families are seeking new ways to have fun outdoors as they adapt to the changes brought on from social distancing orders and travel restrictions. It’s not likely the sales of ATVs and UTVs are slowing down anytime soon.
