The Least Reliable 2021 Toyota Models According to Consumer Reports

Toyota is known for building cars, trucks, and SUVs that last. Plus, Toyota also has a reputation for strong reliability. But not every unit earns a perfect 5 out of 5 for predicted reliability. These are the least reliable 2021 Toyota models according to Consumer Reports.

Durability is a staple of design, as seen in long-lasting models like the Toyota Tacoma or Toyota Corolla. Many Toyota trucks and SUVs see over 200,000 on the odometer before it’s all said and done. Toyota’s cars are known for their hassle-free longevity. That doesn’t mean Toyota’s are perfect. They still deal with repair costs, recalls, and lemons just like any other models on the market. That said, consumers know Toyota is typically reliable.

There aren’t any 2021 Toyota models that are rated below 3 out of 5 for predicted reliability

Just because these are the least reliable 2021 Toyota models doesn’t actually mean that they are in fact unreliable. According to Consumer Reports, there’s a trend in Toyota’s reliability ratings. Out of all of the cars, trucks, and SUVs in the lineup, not one model received a predicted reliability rating below 3 out of 5. But what are the most unreliable Toyota models of 2021?

The least reliable Toyota cars

In 2021, four cars received a 3 out of 5 for predicted reliability from Consumer Reports. The models range from the sporty 2021 Toyota Supra to the 2021 Corolla Hatchback. The 2021 Toyota Avalon also received a 3 out of 5 score.

In addition to the 2021 Toyota Supra, Corolla Hatchback, and Avalon, the 2021 Toyota Mirai also scored a 3 out of 5 for predicted reliability. That said, all of these models are still generally reliable. Toyota’s reputation for the incredible reliability and durability of its models isn’t a coincidence. Every 2021 Toyota model has reliability in its DNA. Even without scoring as high as other models like the 2021 Prius.

Toyota trucks and SUVs

Some 2021 Toyota trucks and SUVs earned a 3 out of 5 for predicted reliability too. Consumer Reports gave a lower score to the 2021 Toyota Tacoma than both the Jeep Gladiator and the Honda Ridgeline. Most still regard the Toyota Tacoma as a sturdy truck that’s built to last. The 2021 Toyota Tacoma also has zero active recalls so far.

The 2021 Toyota RAV4 and RAV4 prime crossover SUV is also one of the least reliable 2021 Toyota models. The Consumer Reports reliability rating is a 3 out of 5 for both model options. However, the Toyota RAV4 is one of the most popular Toyota SUV models. Plus, its reliability ratings are certainly not affecting sales.

The 2021 Toyota Sienna minivan is another model with lower Consumer Reports reliability ratings than other Toyotas. As per the trend among the least reliable 2021 Toyota models, the 2021 Toyota Sienna also has a 3 out of 5 for predicted reliability. This van is in a brand new generation. Sometimes, the first model year of a new generation gets lower reliability scores. That’s because fresh units need to “work out the kinks.” The Sienna, however, received lower scores for the last few model years.
