The Jeep Renegade vs the Kia Soul: Which Is Best?

One has hamsters and the other has iconic X brake lights, while both vehicles provide a fair amount of spunk. When it comes to the Kia Soul Vs The Jeep Renegade, deciding which vehicle is better comes down to their features and your individual needs.

The Jeep Renegade vs the Kia Soul

Both vehicles are small, boxy crossovers that provide comfort and style. They provide the space of an SUV without the massive price and size of larger vehicles. They’re both five-door vehicles with a unique hatchback design and their differences begin to stem from their distinct personalities.

Off-Roading Capabilities

The Jeep Renegade comes on strong as a spunky off-roading vehicle. It is the little Jeep that can. It has a tough style as the Jeep’s smallest SUV. What it lacks in size it makes up for with all-wheel-drive power.

While the Renegade can climb over rocky trails and traverse through snow and mud, the Kia Soul can’t. It doesn’t have an all-wheel option as of yet. So, if you want off-roading capabilities, or need a 4×4 vehicle, then the Jeep Renegade is the better option.

So, the Kia is a bit roomier and a little more comfortable for larger groups to ride in. the dual-density foam and long seat cushions are a comfortable feature that drivers love.

2020 Hyundai Venue vs. 2020 Kia Soul: Which Boxy SUV Is Better?

The base model of the Renegade has a 160 horsepower turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a six-speed manual. You can also move up to the 180 horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with the new nine-speed transmission. These are two pretty fast and capable options.

The Kia Soul has three engines to choose from. The base model sports a 130 horsepower 1.4-liter inline-four engine that can be paired with the six-speed manual. There is also the more powerful 164-hp 2.0-L direct injection inline-four engine. Soul Exclaim models have a 201-hp 1.6-L turbo-4.

The Renegade is a faster, sportier vehicle to drive. It may provide a little more fun during your commute or around town for chores. That being said, the Kia Soul has been noted to have a quieter cab and smoother ride.

The Kia Soul starts at around $18k while the Jeep Renegade begins at $23k. With the Renegade, you’re paying more for the off-roading capabilities. You may save more with the Kia Soul as it averages 27 mpg while the Renegade sits at 25 mph. However, the Kia Soul EV is a more fuel-efficient and expensive electric option. The Kia Soul also has a longer warranty and a slightly higher safety rating.

At the end of the day, these vehicles are very similar in size and feel, but the Jeep Renegade is a sportier option with off-roading capabilities. While the Kia soul takes the cake with comfort, the Renegade might be a little more fun.

Use this guide to evaluate the price and function of both vehicles to determine which option better suits your automotive needs. While the Kia Soul is an excellent around-town option, the Renegade is a little more adventurous.
