Is the 2020 Ford F-150 a good truck? 

As the number one selling truck, the Ford F-150 has to be good, but apparently, it’s not the best. According to CarandDriver, which made a list of the top 10 best trucks and cars, the Ford F-150 isn’t a 10Best option.

Meanwhile, the 2020 Ram 1500 and Jeep Gladiator made the list. Other 10Best award winners include the 2020 Kia Telluride, Toyota Supra, and Mazda CX-5. So, why isn’t the Ford F-150 one of the best options? 

2020 Ford F-150 negatives 

Let’s switch gears and visit Edmunds for an expert review of the 2020 Ford F-150. They provide a long list of positive things to say, along with a shortlist of cons. According to Edmunds, the ride can be rough with an unladen bed, and the fuel economy fell short of its listed estimates during testing. 

The Ford F-150 gets an estimated 21 mpg in the city and up to 28 mpg on the highway. But with people behind the wheel for longterm testing over months, no one was able to achieve 21 mpg. They mentioned that it’s a great daily driver if you aren’t personally paying the gas bill. 

Upon driving the Ford F-150, it was noted that the truck has a variety of powerful engine options that deliver a fast and smooth drive. I have a variety of V6 options, including a diesel engine and a 5.0-liter V8 engine. With the 10-speed automatic transmission, all the gears seemed to have a smooth shift.

The Ford F-150 has good steering, handling, and braking, but has room for improvement. It was also noted for having a nimble turning radius, making it easy to maneuver around tight spots for a massive truck. The soft suspension may be designed for towing but is comfortable enough for long trips and family vacations. 

The interior is fine. The lower trim options do involve heavy plastics, but this truck is available as a blue-collar work truck and luxury option. The storage capabilities could be upgraded as rivals offer more bins and in bed containers.

Trim levels include XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum and Limited, in addition to Raptor. Law enforcement can choose the F-150 Police Responder – the industry’s first and only pursuit-rated pickup, giving agencies a more versatile and capable patrol vehicle.

Also, the tech could use some upgrading. While it’s easy to use the infotainment center, it’s on the Ford Sync 3 system instead of Ford Sync 4. Other than that, there are plenty of USB ports and plugs all over for charging devices, and the Wifi hotspot offers more data than rival ones. 

Is the 2020 Ford F-150 worth buying? 

The Ford F-150 offers a variety of trim levels to fit your work and play needs. The aluminum body makes it lighter but could be damaged more easily in wrecks.

But it’s a work truck that doubles as a comfortable daily driver with ample acceleration and power. However, the 2021 Ford F-150 solves the storage and tech issues. Also, the hybrid engine will provide a much better fuel economy.
