When you think of the Ford vs. Chevy rivalry, you probably think about big trucks. However, they compete on a much smaller scale too, which is why the Chevy Trailblazer just made its debut to fight against the tiny Ford EcoSport. But which compact SUV is better?

Ford EcoSport vs. Chevy Trailblazer

The Chevy Trailblazer used to be a much larger SUV, but in 2021 it returned as a tiny SUV for urban driving. The 2021 Chevy Trailblazer starts around $19k, making it an economical option as a daily commuter.

The 2020 Ford EcoSport also starts around $19k, causing the battle to intensify. The Ford EcoSport and Chevy TrailBlazer have similar fuel economies too. The Trailblazer gets 26 mpg in the city and up to 30 mpg on the highway. Meanwhile, the EcoSport gets 27 mpg in the city and up to  29 mpg on the highway.

Chevy Trailblazer and Ford EcoSport performance

The Ford EcoSport has a 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine that provides 123 horsepower and 125 lb-ft of torque. But you can upgrade to the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine for 166 horsepower and 149 lb-ft of torque.

To our surprise, the Ford EcoSport can tow between 1,400 to 2,000 lb when properly equipped, enabling it to handle pulling small trailers. Also, the EcoSport can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 10.7 seconds.

In the Chevy Trailblazer, you’ll find a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine that pumps out 137 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque. You can also upgrade to the 1.3-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine for 155 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque.

The Chevy Trailblazer can only tow up to 1,000 lb when properly equipped, even though it has more torque. But it can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 9.5 seconds, making it slightly faster than the EcoSport.

If you get the Ford EcoSport with the 2.0-liter engine, then it comes with standard all-wheel-drive. The Chevy Trailblazer also offers optional all-wheel-drive, so both of these SUVs can handle snow if needed.

The Ford EcoSport has driving modes for snow and mud with hill start assist while the Chevy trailblazer has an all-wheel-drive mode. The EcoSport might be the better option for handling slippery conditions.

Ford EcoSport and Chevy Trailblazer features

The Chevy Trailblazer is a bit more spacious than the Ford EcoSport with up to 54 cubic feet of cargo space. The Ford EcoSport maxes out with 50 cubic feet of cargo space. But the Ford EcoSport has an adjustable cargo load floor.

Also, the Chevy TrailBlazer comes with more standard safety features. While the Ford EcoSport comes with automatic emergency braking, the Trailblazer comes with emergency braking, forward collision alert, pedestrian detection, automatic headlights, and more.

In the Chevy Trailblazer, you get a Wifi hotspot and 7” infotainment center too. The Ford EcoSport also comes with a Wifi hotspot and has an 8” touchscreen. Both of these SUVs can connect to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Deciding between these vehicles is pretty tough. However, the Ford EcoSport seems to be slightly more capable while the Chevy Trailblazer comes with more standard safety features. You may need to test drive both options to see which one you like more.
