A brief history of the Honda Civic Si

1992 was the first year the Civic Si was introduced in the states, with a 1.6L, five-speed manual transmission, 125 HP, and 7200 RPM, all in a 2300 pound curb weight package. It’s come a long way from its first American iteration. It has always had fantastic gas mileage and is an excellent value.

One of the most loved generations of Si is the 8th Generation, which was produced from 2006-2011. This one had a 2.0L six-speed, and it leaped from 160hp in the 7th gen up to 197 HP, with 139 Foot Pounds of Torque and 8000 RPM. It not only had the most significant jump in HP. It also received a massive increase in interior upgraded with seats, a heads-up display, and more.

The Five Secrets You Would Never Know About Honda Civic Si

The Honda Civic Si could be better than a Type R

The Si was thought of as the “poor man’s type R” But not anymore. 2020 brings back some of the fun of Honda’s earlier Si days with new features that won’t break your bank like the Type R could. It gets new lower bumper fog light housings, a body-color crossbar, new multi-element LED headlights, plus a new rear bumper. The Civic Si models also receive a fixed rear wing and 18-inch matte-black wheels with all-season tires standard.

Cost vs. value

While the 2020 model is more expensive than a 2019 or previous model, it still comes in around $25,000. The refreshed 2020 Honda Civic Si may be the best performance compact car for the money. The new Civic Si does have optional $200 summer tires, but that’s about all for factory options. The new Si is also more appropriate as an everyday driver. Since it offers 12.1 and 15.1 cubic feet of cargo space in the coupe and sedan, and this all comes under the $37,000 price tag of the Type R.

Interior

The Si stepped up the look of the interior with some great looking red accents, including red Si badges in the seats. They also added an updated 450- watt premium ten-speaker sound system that has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The 2020 Si got rid of the irritating touch-sensitive scroll bar and went back to actual volume knobs, making this a great addition to the list.

The Honda Civic Si is made for those that love a manual

The great thing about the Si is that it only comes with a six-speed manual gearbox, which was made for the Honda Civic purists out there. It is tied to a 1.5-liter, direct-injected and turbocharged inline four-cylinder, which produces a stout 205 horsepower. This pushes out 192 lb-ft. of torque, meaning it can go from zero to 60 in 6.5 seconds.

Great Features

The new Civic Si also has Honda’s exclusive side-view camera system. The system will activate the camera view in each side mirror when you use the turn signal. The camera feed is projected on the display screen on the dash. It helps to eliminate blind spots to avoid collisions.

The bottom line here is if you are looking for the reliability, fun, features, and the pure driving enjoyment of a 6-speed manual, then the new 2020 Civic Si is the car you have been waiting to get.
