Environmentally-conscious individuals who also loved RVs have been stuck between a rock and a hard place. While there were plenty of electric cars available, if they wanted to use an RV, they had no choice but to use a fuel-burning camper.

The good news is that the time is coming where you can help save the planet and view it from the comfort of a camper. The first electric RV is finally a reality, though it’s not yet available in the United States.

Are there any electric RVs?

The world’s first electric RV, the Iridium E-Mobil RV, made its debut at the 2018 Travel Fair in Stuttgart, Germany. People were understandably excited to see firsthand that an electric RV really was possible.

The biggest downside to the electric RV was its range. At the time, the company reported that the RV was only reliable over a distance of 124 miles before the battery would need a charge.

For most people, that made using the RV impractical. Stopping that often to charge a battery meant it would take some people days just to reach their favorite camping destination.

Things have changed. According to Boomers Daily, the Iridium E-Mobil RV can now be purchased with a 108 kWh battery pack that has doubled the vehicle’s range. Drivers can now go about 250 miles before they need to charge the battery. The electric RV uses lithium batteries and requires a dedicated connector to charge.

“Furthermore, the owners will be able to charge the vehicle through a conventional socket, through charging stations up to 22 kW or at CCS fast-charging stations with up to 50 kW,” INSIDEEVS reported when the original version of the was presented to the public. “No further information about actual charging times has been revealed.

How comfortable is the Iridium E-Mobil RV?

It won’t matter how good the battery in the Iridium E-Mobil RV is or how far the RV can travel on a single charge. If the RV isn’t comfortable and user-friendly, people are going to be upset.

The first thing to consider is that the Iridium E-Mobil RV isn’t a full-size camper that will easily sleep six or more people. It’s considered a mini-camper which means only a few people will want to use it at one time.

One of the interesting things about the Iridium E-Mobil RV is that it’s divided into tiny rooms. While this might make the RV seem smaller to some people, it also makes it possible for each person in the vehicle to enjoy their own space.

It should also make organization easier. While it does appear that there are multiple drawers in the RV as well as a storage area near the back, it’s unclear just how much interior storage the RV has available.

Without knowing that, it’s difficult to determine if this would be a good option for individuals who like to stay in their camper full time.

Andrew Ditton was able to test drive the RV and posted a video to YouTube. He was impressed with how quickly the RV picked up speed. Following the drive he and the man who rode along discussed how they were impressed with the unit’s pick-up and how quiet the RV was.

Ditton did say that drivers were going to have to learn a slightly different driving technique for the Iridium E-Mobil RV.

Will the Iridium E-Mobil RV be available in the United States

Understandably, you might be itching to get your hands on the Iridium E-Mobil RV. It’s a cute RV and the idea of a fully electric RV is certainly intriguing, but you’re going to have to wait.

The Iridium E-Mobil RV isn’t yet available in the United States and no one has said if there are any plans to bring it to American drivers.
