The Honda Civic Type R is the fastest front-wheel-drive production car on the market today. And while having over 300 horsepower might be enough for most of us, especially for a street-driven car, it can be upgraded to push even more power. Aftermarket tuning software has already existed for the Civic Type R for the past couple of years or so, however, Hondata has taken it a step further to make the hottest hatchback go even faster.

More fuel, more power

When it comes to turbocharged setups, upgrading the fuel system is necessary because more air is being added into the engine. As you can imagine, Honda engineered the Civic Type R with a great fuel system from the get-go. But, as always, what is great can always be better.

As such, Hondata, a renowned Honda tuning company, just released a new fuel system upgrade kit for the Civic Type R (FK8). According to the company, the fuel system upgrade flows 24 percent more fuel over the stock system, which enables a safe and easy way to increase power.

Although, if you add more fuel to the engine, then you also need more air. As such, Hondata’s FlashPro tuning software must be used in conjunction with the fuel system upgrade.

What is included in the fuel system upgrade?

The fuel upgrade kit comes with everything you’ll need including high-flow fuel injectors, a higher-flowing direct injection fuel pump, high and low-pressure fuel lines, and even an ethanol-rated low-pressure fuel pump.

Hondata also throws in pre-calibrated software tunes to get you started, however, that requires the use of the Hondata FlashPro tuner, which retails for $695. But you’ll also need to have the factory ECU unlocked to you can tune it, which will cost another $250.

What kind of power gains can be achieved?

Hondata says they’ve been testing this upgrade kit on daily-driven vehicles for well over a year now, so you can bet that it’s tried-and-tested and ready to go.

As for horsepower gains, the company posted dyno charts of what they were able to achieve with it. On a car that was running 91-octane fuel in conjunction with a high-flow catalytic converter and an upgraded intercooler, they managed to extract an extra 57 horsepower and 90 lb-ft of torque, which totaled 375 horsepower and 424 torque.

For reference, if you were to just use the Hondata Flashpro, without the fuel system upgrade, you could see similar gains of about 58 more horsepower and 78 more torque but that would require the use of ethanol fuel.

How much does it cost?

The Hondata Civic Type R fuel system upgrade kit costs $2,850, which might sound like a lot, but considering the hardware that’s included and the fact that it’s all plug-and-play installation, we think it’s worth it.

Couple all of that with the available tuning options and the sky is the limit when it comes to making power in the Civic Type R. As always, we recommend taking your car to a professional tuner to get everything dialed in correctly.

While Hondata does include ready-to-go tuning maps, it’s better to play it as safe as possible so you can enjoy driving the car without issues.

After all, what’s more fun that driving the fastest front-wheel-drive production car? Driving it faster with more power!
