Chevy’s unveiled a brand-new Silverado trim called the Carhartt Edition. In addition to an already great full-sized pickup truck, the Carhartt Edition also gives the Silverado a ton of interior upgrades. Here’s all you need to know about this Carhartt Edition trim of the Silverado.

What is Carhartt?

If you don’t follow the fashion world or if you’re someone who just buys clothes in bulk at a retailer and doesn’t look at the clothing brand, you may not have heard about Carhartt before. Like Chevy though, Carhartt is an old brand. In fact, according to Motor1, Carhartt was established in 1889, a full 22 years before Chevy was founded.

Carhartt is a Detroit-based, global brand too, just like Chevy. Carhartt mostly designs premium clothes for workers. These clothes are designed to withstand wear and tear, last a long time, and be comfortable and stylish while doing those tough jobs.

It’s no surprise then that Chevy, whose cars and trucks have a similar philosophy, has partnered with Carhartt to create this trim of the Silverado.

This isn’t the first time that these two companies have collaborated, though. Like Chevy mentioned in its press release, the two companies unveiled a concept truck based on a fusion of the two company’s design philosophies. This was back in 2016 at the SEMA show.

Three years later, the two companies are at it again and have unveiled a Carhartt Edition truck that can actually be bought by consumers.

The Silverado in question

Carhartt primarily handled the interior design of the truck, but the truck itself is still a good Silverado pickup truck to begin with. Chevy says that the Carhartt Edition is based on the Silverado 2500 LTZ crew cab. It also comes with the Z71 off-road package, which gives the truck several features, such as improved shocks, that’ll make the truck great for off-roading.

This Silverado also comes with 20-inch wheels that are great for off-roading. Serving customers who need to work outdoors was something that both Chevy and Carhartt had in common, so that’s why the Carhartt Edition is so heavily invested in its off-roading capability. The truck also exclusively has a mosaic black exterior color, which gives it a unique look.

Because the base truck is a Silverado 2500, it has some seriously heavy-duty towing capacity. There are two engine options, a 6.6-liter V8 powered by gas or powered by diesel. The gas engine will generate 401-hp and 464 lb-ft of torque. The diesel engine will generate 445-hp and 910 lb-ft of torque. Either of these heavy-duty engines will allow the Carhartt Edition Silverado to tow thousands of pounds of cargo.

Interior upgrades

While the truck itself is largely a Silverado 2500, the interior got an upgrade courtesy of Carhartt. Chevy’s interiors aren’t great, so this is a welcome change.

According to Chevy, some of the interior upgrades that Carhartt has made include Carhartt-themed all-weather floor liners, two-tone leather seats with Carhartt’s jet black and Carhartt brown color scheme, as well as Carhartt logos embedded throughout the interior of the truck.

Like the Carhartt concept truck that Chevy and Carhartt unveiled in 2016, this Carhartt Edition Silverado was also met with a positive response. And while the interior changes may seem small, they were primarily an upgrade in looks. Of course, like anything fashion related, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Price wise, it’s not known how much Chevy will be charging for the Carhartt Edition of the Silverado. However, as Motor1 reported, Chevy expects that this trim will be available to consumers in the fall of 2020.
