In 2016, Cadillac replaced its midsize SUV – the SRX – with something brand new. The Cadillac XT5 brought all the luxury the brand is known for and combined it with everyday capability and cargo space. The new 2020 Cadillac XT5 is stuffed with features, so this modern vehicle continues to be a tough competitor in the midsize SUV crossover class.

Sales figures for the XT5

The Cadillac XT5 was introduced in 2016, and according to Car Sales Base, sales numbers peaked the following year. Although the XT5’s sales dipped after that, overall the crossover’s sales numbers have been pretty steady. In 2016, Cadillac sold 39,485 XT5’s. In 2017, they sold the most units ever in one year at 68,312. In 2018, that number dropped to 60,565 and then dropped even further in 2019 to 49,879 Cadillac XT5’s sold in the United States.

Cadillac dropped the SRX in favor of the completely redesigned XT5 to increase sales numbers because it fell short of expectations. By adding an extra layer of luxury and a more refined ride, the XT5 was better able to compete in the crowded midsize SUV field. The XT5 has higher-quality interior materials and more functional features than its predecessor.

In 2020, the Cadillac XT5 got a fresh exterior that gives the SUV a brand-new look. There are a new, eye-catching front grille and jewel headlights and taillights, plus sweeping curves and available 20-inch alloy wheels. One thing drivers like best about the XT5 is the fact they get all the great features of a luxurious Cadillac interior combined with reconfigurable cargo and passenger space.

The 60/40 split-folding rear seat also folds flat for expansive flat-floor cargo space. The interior feels even more spacious thanks to the giant sunroof that gives a view to both front and rear-seat passengers.

There are 2 available engines for the 2020 Cadillac XT5. Standard in Luxury and Premium Luxury trims, a 2.0-liter engine puts out 237 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. It features innovative fuel-saving technologies like active fuel management. Under the hood of the XT5 Sport is a 3.6-liter V6 powerhouse with 310 hp. The nine-speed precision shift transmission whisks you from gear to gear with just a gesture.

The 2020 Cadillac XT5 has an extra-smooth ride thanks to real-time damping that adjust the suspension every few milliseconds, and StabiliTrak, which kicks in when the vehicle experiences low-traction conditions. Sport models take it up a notch and are tailored for driving enthusiasts with features like twin-clutch sport all-wheel drive, a heavy-duty cooling system, and an electronic precision transmission.

The driver experience sets the XT5 apart

The XT5 envelopes drivers in luxury. It has a touchscreen that is beautifully integrated into the dash, which gives you access to every aspect of your day. Phone, messages, and a library of helpful apps. Seamlessly integrate your phone with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in the 2020 Cadillac XT5. The cockpit surrounds each passenger in natural wood, cut and sewn leather, and carbon fiber trim elements.

Life is even more stress-free in the XT5 thanks to a full suite of driver-assist features. These include front pedestrian braking, forward collision alert, rear cross-traffic alert, lane change alert with a blind spot warning, and available night vision. It’s a level of safety that gives drivers an extra level of confidence on the road.

The XT5 has been a successful model for Cadillac, and with the new exterior upgrades and driver-oriented luxury, it promises to continue to be a hot seller for a classic American brand.
