The 2022 GMC Terrain just got a pretty nice refresh. Along with receiving an interior refresh and updated tech, the new 2022 GMC Terrain AT4 trim has been added to the lineup. Now GMC’s smallest SUV can be off-roading oriented.

What’s new for the 2022 GMC Terrain?

The 2022 GMC Terrain has a slightly updated face. It has revised LED headlights and taillights, a new rugged grille design, plus there are new 18 and 19-inch wheel designs. It seems like all SUVs are trying to look angrier and more confident.

According to Cars.com, GMC says that the Terrian will have updated fabric and interior trim options. However, they haven’t revealed any clues about what to expect yet. It’s safe to assume that the base trim, luxurious Denali trim, and new 2022 GMC Terrain AT4 trim will provide various choices.

You now get standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, so that’s a nice perk. Amazon Alexa integration is also standard. The SLT, AT4, and Denali trims have a head-up display. It’s standard on the Denali trim and optional for the others. The Denali trim also gets a standard 8-inch driver information display.

What comes with the 2022 GMC Terrain AT4?

The 2022 GMC Terrain AT4 completes GMC’s mission to offer an off-roading trim with each of its models. The AT4 trim adds 17-inch Gloss-black wheels that are wrapped in Goodyear Sport Terrain tires.

You also get a black chrome grille, black wheel arches, and badging. The Terrain’s new look will be even more confident in black. You’ll also notice the addition of a front skid plate to protect under-body components.

For off-roading, there is a traction select system that includes an Off-Road mode and hill descent control. The interior features leather seats with an embroidered AT4 logo. Stats about how capable this SUV is haven’t been released.

Disappointments with the 2022 GMC Terrain

It doesn’t matter if you get the 2022 GMC Terrain AT4, Denali, or base model. It still only comes with one engine option. We were hoping for a little more muscle. Anyways, the GMC Terrain has a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 170 hp and 203 lb-ft of torque.

The 2.0-liter turbo engine was discontinued for 2021, but after it was missing for a year, it returned to the 2022 Chevy Equinox. The Equinox is pretty similar to the Terrain, so maybe this engine will return when the Terrain Denali trim comes out in the fall.

But on a positive note, the 2022 Terrain comes with more standard safety features. It includes the GMC Pro Safety suite with forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and automatic high-beams. With the GMC Terrain Denali trim, you also get front and rear parking sensors along with unique suspension tuning.

Pricing for the 2022 GMC Terrain hasn’t been announced. The 2021 model has an MSRP of $25,000. Without significant updates, we don’t expect the price to rise by much. It may increase to about $26,000. GMC is being pretty quiet, especially about the new AT4 trim, so we have to wait to learn more.
