The 2022 Ford Expedition gets a new look

In 2017, the fourth-generation Ford Expedition was introduced as a 2018 model. That doesn’t seem like too long ago, but somehow the Expedition already feels dated, especially when it sits beside the new Chevy Tahoe.

Now, AutoBlog has gotten their hands on spy photos revealing that the 2022 Ford Expedition will have a brand new face. But unfortunately, the Ford Expedition was wearing camouflage, so the new look remains hidden for now.

From the photos, you can spot 18-inch Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain tires, which suggest an off-roading theme. Plus, the scalloped front air dam that’s easy to spot on other Expeditions isn’t on the model in the photos.

It may have been removed for testing, or it provides further evidence of off-roading upgrades. AutoBlog suggests that its absence would improve the Expedition’s approach angle.

Other than that, the camouflage coverings suggest that the Ford Expedition will have a new headlight design, grille, new taillight design, and a new rear bumper.

Plus, the interior shows a vertical infotainment screen, like the one found in the Mustang Mach-E. This could mean that the Ford Expedition will have a different interior from the Ford F-150.

Why is the Ford Expedition a popular SUV?

The 2020 Ford Expedition is ranked as the best 3-row SUV by U.S.News for a variety of reasons. It ranks highly for having more than enough space for eight passengers with up to 121 cubic feet of cargo space.

Plus, it has a fair amount of power. The Expedition has a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine with 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 6.7 seconds, making this beast very fast for its massive size.

It can also tow up to 9,300 lb, so go ahead, pull that horse trailer or camper. Be sure to add the Heavy Duty Trailer Tow package to gain additional cooling, trailer backup assist, an integrated brake controller, and a 3.73 gear ratio.

It doesn’t have the best interior, but it’s comfortable. The amount of space and capability it provides with a starting price of around $48,990 makes the Ford Expedition an excellent economical option for families.

2020 Ford Expedition features

The tech in the Ford Expedition seems a bit dated with the Sync 3 system, but won’t be for long with the new refresh coming. However, the infotainment system is very easy to use and works very quickly. It comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

You gain excellent visibility with the 360-degree camera, and a multi-surface traction control system provides confidence on slippery surfaces. Plus, with Ford Co-Pilot 360, you get lane-keeping assistance, lane-keeping alert, pre-collision assistance with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning, rear-cross traffic alert, and automatic high beams.

For a little extra cash, you can gain convenience features such as a power-folding third-row seat, hands-free power tailgate, wireless device charging, tons of USB ports, three-zone AC, and more.
