If you’re looking for a full-size SUV that can take you, your family, and even a few more friends along for the ride, then you can’t go wrong with a 2021 Toyota Sequoia. The Sequoia is a large SUV that can traverse – and basically crush – just about any terrain that you can drive it on and will get you to your destination and back with ease. And if you want to do it all in style, then you can opt for the new Toyota Sequoia Nightshade Edition.

What do you get with the Toyota Sequoia Nightshade Edition?

Don’t get your hopes too high with the new-for-2021 Toyota Sequoia Nightshade Edition, there aren’t any cool engine or suspension modifications to note like on the TRD Pro trim level. However, if you’re into the “blacked-out” look, then this version of the Sequoia will be right up your alley. The Nightshade Edition brings out the goth look in this three-row SUV by adding a host of darkened appearance upgrades.

For starters, you’ll get a darkened chrome grille, a black lower grille surround, bodyside moldings, fog lights surrounds, and Toyota badging. There are also black mirror caps, black door handles, and even black 20-inch split-spoke wheels to top off the whole look. When painted in Magnetic Gray Metallic (like my test car), there’s enough black-out bling to make Batman jealous, if he were a family man. However, if you would rather have a different color, then you can have any color you desire as long as it’s black or white. Or as Toyota calls them; “Midnight Black Metallic” and “Blizzard Pearl.”

The inside of the Nightshade Sequoia is dark as well

The dark theme extends to the interior of Nightshade Edition Sequoia as well, although, not in any kind of gussied-up, gimmicky way. There are no trick carbon fiber trim pieces or brushed aluminum bits to blind you when the sun hits them. Instead, the interior is adorned in all black leather and hard plastics, which gives it more of a utilitarian vibe as opposed to something more luxurious.

No, the Toyota Sequoia Nightshade Edition is not a Lexus LX 570, however, there are a few touches that will make you feel comfortable no matter which seat you’re sitting in. The two captain’s chairs in the second row can recline and have adjustable armrests and there’s even a full set of climate controls back there.

And if you happen to be banished to the third row, you’ll be happy to know that there is plenty of head and legroom back there and those seats recline as well. One nice feature is that the third row is also power-operated, so folding it to obtain over 60 cubic-feet of cargo volume (behind the second row) is a breeze.

How much does the 2021 Sequoia Nightshade Edition cost?

If you opt for the 2021 Toyota Sequoia Nightshade Edition that’s only able to power two wheels, then you can expect a starting price of $60,645. But if you want the ability of a four-wheel drivetrain, then will be paying $63,445 (before taxes and destination charges.) The only other option boxes to check off are for the available JBL audio package and the rear-seat Blu-ray disc player with a nine-inch screen.

If you do plan on buying one of these Nightshade Sequoias, then we suggest doing it quickly as Toyota only plans to build 2,500 of them in total.
