Anyone in the market for a full-size sedan is in luck. This year brings with it a slew of new and luxurious models to enjoy and appreciate. In the past, the Chevy Impala and Dodge Charger have been among the popular options. But now consumers have more choices than ever. And one of them is the Toyota Avalon.

In fact, it isn’t merely a choice. It’s MotorTrend’s pick for the top full-size sedan in “The Best Sedans to Buy in 2021.” Here’s why the Toyota Avalon is number one.

The 2021 Toyota Avalon’s competition

The Toyota Avalon’s rivals are dwindling thanks to SUVs’ popularity, Car and Driver reports, “but it’s one of the best of its breed.” Among its competitors is the Kia Cadenza. U.S. News ranked the sedan number one for its “handsome cabin, a laundry list of standard equipment, and generous passenger space.”

The 2021 Nissan Maxima also presents a well-rounded case. It comes equipped with a ton of standard safety features and an easy-to-use infotainment system.

And though Acura was excited and hopeful about the new TXL, it didn’t gain the same traction and attention as some of the other sedans on the market.

The Toyota Avalon’s reputation

MotorTrend‘s favorite full-size sedan might come as a surprise to some. That’s because the Toyota Avalon hasn’t always had the coolest reputation. The American driving public has long associated the model with senior citizens thanks to its size and styling.

One Reddit thread explores the stigma surrounding the car. One user flatly asked, “Is the Toyota Avalon a ‘grandpa’ car?”

And though that may have been the Avalon’s image at one point, Toyota has clearly switched things up.

The 2021 Avalon is the darling of large sedans

The 2021 Toyota Avalon impressed not just MotorTrend. The model has also earned heaps of praise and attention from other outlets.

Car and Driver rates the 2021 Avalon 8.5 out of 10 and lauds it for its “efficient powertrains, huge trunk space, [and] long list of standard features.” U.S. News ranks it second, behind only the Cadenza, and says that “the Avalon is well-equipped and is surprisingly modern, offering plentiful standard driver-assistance technology.” And Kelley Blue Book gushes that “its premium ride quality and fit and finish could nearly pass for a Lexus.”

All agree the 2021 Toyota Avalon is roomy. The vehicle’s sleek interior and smooth ride are two more pluses. And the standard V6 engine is plenty powerful for merging into traffic and passing on highways. On top of all of that, the Avalon boasts superb fuel economy, especially the hybrid model.

What’s the sticker price?

According to Consumer Reports, the MSRP ranges from $35,975 to upward of $43,400, depending on the model. Those are reasonable prices for full-size Lexus-level quality.

So if you’re wondering whether the 2021 Toyota Avalon is worth buying, wonder no more. This model offers plenty of value for the money.
