There are plenty of great things to say about the 2021 Mazda CX-5. People just love driving it. However, critics have begun to notice that the Mazda CX-5 may not have the best ride quality. Read about a few potential issues it has before making your decision. 

Is the 2021 Mazda CX-5 a good SUV? 

Yes, the 2021 Mazda CX-5 is a great SUV option. It provides tons of value at an excellent price with a comfortable interior. Plus, the CX-5 is incredibly safe. 

But according to Cars.com, the Mazda CX-5 could have a better ride quality. After testing it, they said that the ride is pretty firm and bumpy. It may take away from the sporty ride.

Edmunds mentioned that the CX-5 has a firm ride for the class too. But it’s not a deal-breaker. The Mazda CX-5 has incredibly fun handling. 

The team at Cars.com also shared that the Mazda CX-5 has a loud engine. The long-gear holds can be annoying for some. However, Edmunds shared that the CX-5 has a quiet cabin at highway speeds. 

Last but not least, Car.com shared that the backseat feels cramped. Passengers may call shotgun as quickly as they can to avoid being squished in the back. 

What do critics like about the Mazda CX-5? 

The 2021 Mazda CX-5 begins at about $25,370 and provides a ton of value with its price. The interior is comfortable and includes the use of high-quality materials for a luxurious feel. 

Plus, the cabin has a simple layout, and the controls are easy to reach. The new 10.25-inch infotainment system is easy to use with clear graphics. 

But the display isn’t a touchscreen. You have to use the physical buttons and knobs to do things like pause your podcasts. The previous model received complaints about the touchscreen functionality, so Mazda got rid of it to solve the issue.

Edmunds also shared that the 2.5-liter turbocharged engine with 250 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque is a ton of fun. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 6.6 seconds. 

But the standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 18 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque is a little sluggish. It takes about 8.7 seconds to reach 60 mph, which is average for its class. 

Mazda CX-5 features 

The 2021 Mazda CX-5 has a fair amount of storage space. There are 30.9 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats with up to 59.6 cubic feet total. 

You’ll find plenty of storage bins throughout the cabin to store personal items. Also, it’s easy to install car seats for the kiddos in the back.

The Mazda CX-5 comes with plenty of standard safety features too. You get adaptive cruise control, forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning with lane-keeping assistance, and blind-spot warning with rear-cross traffic alert. 

Optional features include a new driver alertness monitoring, rear emergency braking, and a 360-degree camera system. If you can get past the slightly bumpy ride and engine noise, then the Mazda CX-5 is one well-rounded option.
