The 2021 Lexus GX 460 has a rugged history. It’s reputed for its reliability and rugged off-road capability. However, this Lexus SUV still offers premium appointments with its luxury interior.

After testing this body-on-frame luxury SUV option, I have to say it holds true to its paradigm. That it’s a luxury vehicle that brings a lot of tough capability into the mix, I agree. While it has flaws, the 2021 Lexus GX 460 is compelling for a number of reasons.

Is the 2021 Lexus GX 460 reliable?

From both Consumer Reports and J.D. Power, the 2021 Lexus GX 460 gets high marks for reliability. Like many other prominent Toyota and Lexus vehicles, this luxury SUV option has a reputation to live up to. One of the most obvious 2021 Lexus GX 460 paradigms is that it is virtually unmatched in its class for reliability.

These outgoing models aren’t just rated high for predicted reliability. In fact, the Lexus GX is a luxury SUV option with a history of durability as well. It’s common to see ancient generations as well as high milage examples of this Lexus off-road SUV driving in the wild. They are know for longevity, durability, and reliability.

After driving this luxury Lexus SUV for a week I have to say it certainly feels like a vehicle that will last. In addition, while the tech inside the Lexus GX 460 interior seems a bit dated it also doesn’t seem like it’s going to glitch or fail in any way. The 2021 Lexus GX 460 feels pretty solid and sturdy sitting up there atop its ladder frame.

It actually can go off-road

The other more obvious 2021 Lexus GX 460 paradigm is that it is a beast off-road. This also proved to be true. We worked it and splashed around in the mud a bit. The conditions were brutal and we only got stuck once. Plus, we give the Lexus GX 460 interior some bonus points because it was super easy to clean up after our off-road romp.

Adjustable air suspension and multiple driving modes on our 2021 Lexus GX 460 with the off-road package lent to its capability. Of all the obstacles we traversed, the only time this luxury SUV option had any trouble was when we went a bit too timid through some very deep mud. All things considered, the Lexus GX handled itself with composure through a number of off-road challenges. It held true to its paradigm.

Is it worth buying the 2021 Lexus GX 460?

Whether buying a 2021 Lexus GX 460 is worth it will ultimately be determined by the specific buyer. With a starting price range from $53,250 – $64,515, it’s no small investment. This luxury SUV option is right for you if you value reliability over ultra-modern tech.

Additionally, the Lexus GX interior is luxurious with various options––including an albeit small third row. We loved the red leather trim in the tester. For families that want a nice truck to roll around town that can double as an off-road weekend warrior, this luxury SUV option is definitely one for the top of your list.

Overall the 2021 Lexus GX 460 is a well-rounded vehicle. Its recently updated exterior gives it a fresh look, but there’s no denying that this Lexus is in the tail end of its generation. That said, we’d still recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable luxury SUV that can easily handle off-pavement obstacles.
