Kia has been running the table for a little while now. It sells cars hand over fist, from the Big cheese, Telluride, to the more economical, Soul. As Kia continues their push from cheap, economy cars to well-equipped and luxurious models, it has piled a wide variety of tech and driver aid features to put the cars over the edge. The 2021 Kia Soul didn’t receive a ton of new features from last year. One major feature that is now offered for the new Soul could have saved many teenagers’ lives in ‘80s horror movies.
Nice try bad guy, we see you!
How classic horror movies show someone getting into a car and because of the nature of the villain, creepy music, and limited camera angles cause us, viewers, to scream at the screen, “LOOK OUT BEHIND YOU! HE GONNA KILL YOU!!!” Before the character can finish adjusting their mirrors, boom! They get got by the baddie. Well, clearly, not one of those poor victims was driving a 2021 Kia Soul.
The new Kia Soul (along with other Kia models) has a feature called Rear Occupant Alert, according to Car and Driver. This feature alerts the driver when someone is in the back seat while driving, and even before the driver even enters the car.
The system uses multiple ways to alert the driver of a possible unknown passenger. One of the ways is by beeps and alarms inside the vehicle. More to the slasher movie point, the system can alert the car owner’s phone before they ever get there. It looks like bad guys have one less hiding spot. Thanks, Kia.
The 2021 Kia Soul
While Kia continues to cover the gambit of the auto world, and people focus on the Blockbuster Kia Telluride, the Korean manufacturer is still pumping out other sets of wheels. The Kia Soul has been around since 2008. Its launch was geared toward the younger generation of drivers with a hip and funky design. Kia has largely stuck to that game plan by updating the bodywork to look modern while still being funky and boxy.
The power behind the Soul
Car and Driver reports, two engine options will be offered for the 2021 Kia Soul. There is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder making 147 horsepower. While there is a more powerful 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder making 201 horsepower, the 2.0-liter option is the only one that comes with a six-speed manual. The turbo engine comes with a seven-speed automatic.
2021 Kia Soul interior
Kia has continued to update the interior outside of just the bad-guy-finder system. According to Car and Driver, the attempt to appeal to the youths has been ramped up in the Kia Soul’s interior. Kia offers fashion-forward options like colored door-panel inserts and colorful trim pieces.
Other interior features include Ambient lighting and modern smartphone techs like BlueTooth and charging pads. The 2021 Kia Soul even has high-end features like heads up display and heated seats, and steering wheel.
Kia is coming for the hearts of young people and the heads of bad guys
Ok. Admittedly, that sounded a little dark, but the addition of the Rear Occupant Alert makes the Kia Soul something that, if nothing else, appears to be trying to be intentional with its customers.
