The 2021 Chevy Tahoe Has 3 Concerning Drawbacks

Before you purchase your 2021 Chevy Tahoe and drive off happily into the sunset, be aware of a few crucial drawbacks. After testing the new Chevy Tahoe model, experts have found aspects that they love and elements that aren’t so great.

They also noted the significant upgrades with the 2021 model that fixes previous issues, such as cramped third-row seats, driving quality, and a high cargo floor.

The most notable updates include a new independent suspension, a longer wheelbase, an interior refresh, more cabin room, and a robust list of engine options.

1. The big thirst for fuel

While testing the 2021 Chevy Tahoe, people are often becoming frustrated with how thirsty this giant SUV is. This is one of the drawbacks of having a massive vehicle that your entire family can enjoy during trips.

The Chevy Tahoe gets about 14 mpg in the city and up to 19 mpg on the highway. It has a worse fuel economy than the 2020 model. Chevrolet suggests this is because the 2021 Tahoe is larger. So, remember to set a budget for fuel during long trips and your daily commute.

But hopefully, the upcoming turbo-diesel engine option will help the vehicle become more fuel-efficient. The diesel engine will also improve towing capacity and off-roading abilities. It’s something to consider when determining what you’ll want to use your Tahoe for.

2. The handling isn’t much better

The Chevy Tahoe received upgrades to provide a better driving and riding experience. However, those at feel like it still needs to be improved. They suggest that the Ford Explorer still has a better ride.

However, they do mention that the Chevy Tahoe has a smoother ride. This can be credited to the wider wheelbase and updated suspension to absorb impacts. Passengers in the backseat will definitely notice the difference.

3. The Chevrolet Tahoe is expensive

The third issue that mentions is the price of the Chevy Tahoe, which honestly is quite high for a family vehicle. But every new vehicle these days seems to be increasing in price.

The base model Chevy Tahoe starts around $50k while the High Country trim is about $73k. After adding all the bells and whistles, the loaded Chevy Tahoe could be over $80k.

But a massive SUV is going to come with a substantial price tag. The 2021 Chevy Tahoe has more space than the Suburban now! Also, it’s still cheaper than the Ford Expedition. But it is slightly more than the Toyota Sequoia.

At the end of the day, all of these concerning drawbacks don’t feel like dealbreakers. A larger vehicle will obviously need more fuel. Handling on all massive SUVs could use some updating, but they won’t feel like a sports car. These three issues aren’t enough to make us walk away from the powerful and luxurious 2021 Chevy Tahoe.
