Buick has been trying really hard to sell cars that people actually want. Over the last few years, this carmaker has found some success with making its vehicle lineup more appealing to a new generation of drivers. We were already intrigued by the new Encore GX and by the looks of it, the 2021 Buick Envision might be a winner too.

The redesigned Envision

So the 2020 Envision doesn’t look bad by any means but it is an SUV that’s easier to get lost in a crowded parking lot. Buick’s parent company General Motors recently unveiled the redesigned 2021 Envision in China, which is its most popular market. From what we can see the 2021 version of this model is far more striking. You can tell that Buick took the time to make the Envision something to remember. It’s sharper and edgier, which just might be enough to appeal to younger drivers.

“The all-new Envision S will be a great fit for those who are keen on Buick’s stylish and authentic SUV design as well as the best-networked experience with our advanced connectivity technology,” said Molly Peck, executive director of Buick Sales and Marketing at SAIC-GM. “It will stand out from the crowded midsize SUV segment with both its dynamic ride and its premium appointments.”

On the inside

Interior-wise, the 2021 Buick Envision looks gorgeous quite gorgeous as well. Its handsomely stitched leather looks completely luxurious, and we are hoping it delivers on comfort too. The 2020 Envision earned praise for its looks and performance, but interior comfort isn’t its strong suit. The seats aren’t as comfortable and its rear-seat is on the narrow side.

According to Car and Driver,  the 2021 Envision will add an upgraded 10-inch infotainment display screen that comes along with wireless smartphone connectivity features and a Bose sound system. We are especially impressed by the sweeping glass roof which elevates the entire cabin. Other notable interior features include ventilated seats and negative-ion air purification. GM said we can also expect new advanced safety features on the 2021 Envision.

Performance features

Buick hasn’t released full details on what we can expect in regards to the powertrain options available on the 2021 Envision so we are basing performance offerings on the 2020 version. The 2020 model features two engines. Base models get a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that makes 197-horsepower. There is also a powerful 252-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder available. Based on what Buick has already mentioned, this turbocharged option will be available on the 2021 variant. No word yet on any other engine options on the upcoming model.

Why Buick is excited for 2021

While the car industry is still grappling with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Buick is optimistic about 2021. And from what we can tell, the new Buick lineup is already shaping up nicely. The carmaker says that the new Envision is designed to complement the brand new Encore GX which is a sportier addition to the Buick lineup. We hope to get further details on the new Envision’s performance options along with the standard tech features.
