The 2020 Ram 1500 Is the Perfect Way to Deal With Winter This Year

Winter’s coming, and truck enthusiasts forget about four-wheeling for fun and start thinking about the ice and snow that’s right around the corner. They also spend a lot of time trolling the internet for closeout 2020 models. That age-old combination of want, disguised as need, has a new suitor for the best winter truck – the 2020 Ram 1500. This Ram is special – so special that MotorTrend called it the “best truck in the history of ever.”

What is it about a 2020 Ram 1500 that deserves such accolades?

Ram has built a truck that’s a beast on the outside and a luxury ride inside the cabin. You can haul a lot of horses – literally – with this model, with a towing capacity of a whopping 12,750 lbs. That’s like a team of Budweiser Clydesdales and their luxe trailer. The cabin is what sets the 2020 Ram 1500 apart from its competitors. For starters, U.S. News named it one of the quietest vehicles on the road and one of the best for winter driving.

In the world of full-size pickups, there are three players – Chevrolet, Ram, and Ford. Ford puts more F-Series pickups on the road every year than any other truck in the world. The Chevy Silverado has been a pretty distant second, but in the past year or two, Ram 1500s have blown past the Silverado in US sales.

The 2020 Ram 1500 was built for winter driving

It’s not uncommon to see a Ford F-150 unloading golf clubs at the country club. The Ram 1500 looks just as good at the bag drop and is a more comfortable ride getting there, but winter is where this truck really shines. One reason might be that Chrysler originally built the Ram 1500 with some input from the New England Motor Press Association (NEMPA) for that particular market where winter can last most of the year. They made the truck available to dealers in other snow-heavy parts of the country until they rolled it out nationwide. Fourth generation (from 2008-2019) Ram trucks are on the road all over the world.

The Ram 1500 is built with the following standard features.

  • Snow-rated tires
  • Engine block heater
  • Heated seats and steering wheel
  • Remote start that activates heated elements

The Most Important Thing to Keep in Mind When Driving Your Truck or SUV in the Winter

Inside the cabin, the front and rear seats are heated so your passengers aren’t yelling at you to turn up the heat while you’re toasty warm in the front. Consumer Reports says that the unique coil-spring system guarantees the smoothest ride of any full-size truck, and MotorTrend says it’s a better ride than many luxury sedans. The high-end interior rivals Mercedes-Benz or BMW, although admittedly in the older models – the 2021 Mercedes S-class is loaded with leather, ambient cabin lighting, and touch-swipe steering wheel controls. Even so, considers the 2020 Ram 1500 one of the most “well-appointed” American vehicles made today.

Snowplows, anyone?

Yes, you can plow snow with a 2020 Ram 1500, and there are lots of after-market manufacturers who are happy to sell you a snowplow. Ram’s executives noticed that and have an optional snow plow prep package with their 2021 models – like a tow package in reverse.
