It’s actually a very prestigious award among luxury SUVs and crossovers. Luxury vehicles are typically assumed to possess higher quality than those in the mainstream SUV segment. While that is, in fact, true in terms of cabin materials and engineering, they are also a bit more complicated.

Because of the additional complex features in the typical luxury SUV, there’s actually more room for error. For a luxury SUV to earn marks toward quality for having fewer problems than its competitors is no easy feat. The 2020 BMW X6 did just that.

The 2020 BMW X6 got a redesign for the 2020 model year. It’s actually based on the BMW X5. However, the X6 is a bit more sporty in terms of design. This means a sacrifice when it comes to space in the rear seat as well as cargo volume.

One of the most exciting things about the BMW X6 is its various model options. Each one is a little different from the next. Plus, there are performance-oriented trims with the coveted M badging.

What’s the best X6 model?

Choosing the best trim will ultimately come down to budget and buyer’s preference. Due to its design, the 2020 BMW X6 appeals to those that want a sportier luxury SUV. It’s perhaps a bit less family-friendly than the more traditional BMW X5 SUV. That said, when a company puts out a new crossover SUV, people tend to buy it.

According to BMW USA, both the sDrive40i and the xDrive40i start at $65,050. As an self-respecting BMW ‘Sports Activity Coupe’ should, it also has two different models with the M badging and performance engineering. These are the 2020 BMW X6 M50i ($82,250) and M ($108,600) models.

Under the hood of the first two models, you’ll find a turbocharged 3-liter inline 6, according to CarBuzz. These engines are good for up to 335 horsepower. The difference between the BMW X6 sDrive40i and the xDrive40i is in that the s model is rear-wheel drive while the x model employs an all-wheel-drive powertrain.

The M50i model uses a 523 horsepower twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8. It’s also an AWD model. Buying a 2020 BMW M50i gives consumers a more aggressive body package. Plus, a V8 in a BMW makes sense on a number of levels and benefits from trickle-down over many years of BMW engineering.

The M model also employs a V8. However, it’s rated for a little less than 100 horsepower more than the M50i. Most critics agree that the M50i offers everything most would want in a BMW M-engineered luxury SUV. That said, if you want a sporty SUV that feels like a race machine you’ll probably love the X6 M.

As per user reports in the J.D. Power survey, the 2020 BMX X6 is a luxury SUV with fewer PP100 than all the rest. It dominated others in its class to take the title for Highest Luxury SUV in Quality According to Consumers. While its price isn’t accessible to buyers on a budget, it’s safe to say those who did buy it are happy with their choice.
