The results are in, and the Nissan Titan XD isn’t scoring well. Specifically, the Nissan Titan XD with the Cummins diesel engine is underperforming, despite its legendary build. Check out while a variety of drivers are avoiding the 2019 Nissan Titan XD diesel option.
Is the Nissan Titan XD Being Discontinued?
The Nissan Titan XD is still in production. However, the diesel option was discontinued in 2019. If you see a used Nissan Titan XD with the legendary Cummins diesel engine, think twice before buying it. It was so much of a let down that newer models aren’t offered with diesel engines anymore.
New models of the 2019 Nissan Titan XD are available for about $32k, and depending on your area, used options can be found at a similar price. Although, the 2019 Nissan Titan XD Diesel raises the price to about $42k.
However, the production of the 2019 Nissan Titan XD with the Cummins diesel was stopped to prepare for 2020, when the Nissan Titan received a significant refresh. The Nissan Titan XD Diesel was also discontinued to extremely slow sales.
Why was the Nissan Titan XD Diesel so Bad?
The Nissan Titan XD Diesel was considered to be overpriced compared to the models with a gas engine. Despite having the 5.0-liter V8 Cummins diesel engine that offers 310 horsepower and 555 lb-ft of torque, this truck fails to have a good performance and can’t compete with heavy-duty rivals.
The diesel power in the Nissan Titan XD only allows it to tow around 12,000 lb. Plus, the Nissan Titan XD Diesel can only carry a payload of up to 2,200 lb. Meanwhile, the Ram 3500 can tow up to 35,100 lb and carry a payload of 4,644 lb with the legendary Cummins diesel engine. Also, paying to upgrade from the Nissan Titan XD V8 engine only adds the ability to tow about an extra 1,000 lb.
Plus, the Nissan Titan XD Diesel drives like a heavy-duty truck without the enhanced performance capabilities. It’s challenging to maneuver in tight spots and feels pretty sluggish around town. It takes 8.9 seconds for this massive beast to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph.
2019 Nissan Titan XD Features
The 2019 Nissan Titan XD is often criticized for having an interior that feels outdated, making it worthwhile to go for the refreshed 2020 version instead. The center console seems to lack space and versatility. Also, with the Cummins diesel engine, the ride can be noisy, and passengers can feel the vibrations.
While the 2019 Nissan Titan XD did get a new 7” infotainment center that can connect to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, that’s about it. This truck model lacks more modern features such as a heads up display or the ability to connect to your smartphone.
While safety features such as rear-cross traffic alert and blind-spot monitoring are available, that’s about it. More modern safety features such as blind-spot monitoring for the entire length of your trailer aren’t included. The 2019 Nissan Titan XD Diesel is simply underpowered and can’t keep up with rivals.
