A couple from San Antonio, Texas, used their Dodge pickup truck as a barricade to stop an SUV whose driver was unconscious. Caught on video by Andrea Walker, the quick action of her husband, Rene Villarreal Albe, helped maneuver the car professionally, saving not only the driver’s life but also the lives of others who could have been hit by the out-of-control car.
While driving down Interstate-410 on March 5, Villarreal Albe noticed something was amiss, considering the way a silver SUV was being driven. The vehicle switched lanes abruptly, eventually hitting the barrier on the right. Despite the hit, the car continued moving.

This prompted Villarreal Albe to investigate further by overtaking the SUV. He was then told by Walker, “he’s asleep, Rene.” With the unconscious driver at the wheel, there was no way the car could be stopped at that moment, unless Villarreal Albe did something dramatic.
He did. He positioned his truck exactly in front of the runaway SUV and braked gradually. This allowed the SUV to gently crash into him. The last scene of the footage highlights the drop in momentum, before Walker is asked to call 911.
“We saw a vehicle swerving and hitting the walls on the highway. We realized that the driver was unconscious, and we stopped the vehicle with our Dodge pickup truck,” Walker said, as quoted by FOX 4 News.
Local reports reveal that the man in the SUV was experiencing a “medical episode.” Once his vehicle came to a halt, thanks to Villarreal Albe and Walker, he was attended to by a passing nurse before being transported to a hospital. The driver’s family has reached out to the brave couple to thank them for their efforts. However, the current condition of the patient is not known.
The video highlights how the couple put their lives at risk to help a man in a medical emergency, and potentially saved many others by preventing a bigger crash on the highway.
