To produce one of the best selling vehicles in America is an accomplishment that many in the automotive industry can only dream about. To produce a vehicle that speaks to a wide range of audiences while still holding an air of prestige to own is incredibly difficult. However, as the official vehicle sales numbers for 2022 have been released, there is one polarizing automotive brand that has made its way onto the top-selling list for 2022; Tesla.

Tesla, which only 10 years ago had just released its second vehicle with the Model S, has cracked into the top 10 best-selling vehicles of 2022 with its Model Y crossover SUV. For such a young brand to enter the automotive marketplace and make such an immediate impact is unheard of, especially with a brand that only produces electric vehicles. Here is everything you need to know about one of the best-selling vehicle in the US for 2022, the Tesla Model Y.

Tesla Model Y price, specs, and features

According to Edmunds, the 2023 Tesla Model Y starts at $56,380, and despite that high price, the Model Y was the ninth best-selling vehicle in the US for 2022. For that base MSRP, you get the Long Range model, which is capable of traveling 330 miles on a single charge and capable of a 135 mph top speed.

For a couple of thousand dollars more at $60,380 you can get the Model Y Performance, which drops the range to around 303 miles on a single charge but increases the overall top speed of the Model Y to 155 mph.

Essentially, the Model Y is a crossover SUV built on the chassis of the Model 3 compact sedan. With the bones of the Model 3, the Model Y is outfitted with all of the technology you’d expect out of a Tesla product.

Some of these features include the enormous center touchscreen, which controls almost every vehicle component. Some optional features include Tesla’s Enhanced Autopilot and Full Self-Driving Capability. This Model Y also has seating for up to seven passengers and can tow up to 3,500 pounds with the optional towing package.

Tesla is here to stay

The Tesla Model Y was the top-selling vehicle in California for 2022 according to Edmunds. While that may only be one state in America, California often sets the trends that the rest of the country eventually follows.

With a population of nearly 40 million people, being the top-selling vehicle for a state of that size is no small feat, and the sales for Tesla can only improve as EV infrastructure increases throughout the rest of the country.

Model Y sales also were great in five other states as well, with the Model Y coming in as the second best-selling vehicle in Washington, the fourth best-selling vehicle in Nevada, New Jersey, and Washington D.C., and the fifth best-selling vehicle in Hawaii.

With sales numbers that are this impressive as an EV competing against the entire automotive marketplace, it is easy to see that Tesla is a best-seller that is here to stay.
