The Tesla Cybertruck is the long-awaited electric pickup truck from one of the leaders of the electric vehicle market. Part of its appeal, and the reason that people have been waiting for it with such anticipation, is that it is such a be the most unique electric truck out there, and at a very reasonable price. Now, that has changed, at least according to Tesla founder and CEO of Elon musk. Here is what he had to say about the Tesla Cybertruck price going up and why it just got more expensive.

The Tesla Cybertruck just got more expensive

When the Tesla Cybertruck was first announced back in 2019, its price was surprisingly reasonable. At the time, according to The Verge, was just $39,900. This price is for an electric pickup truck that is set to revolutionize the automotive industry. Not only will the Tesla cyber truck not look like anything else on the market, it was also supposed to have even better technology than anything else on the market.

Yet since then, a lot has changed for the Cybertruck. Its production has been delayed so many times that some people are starting to wonder if we’ll ever actually see it. Its design has changed too, although recently Musk said that it was finalized, which should put it closer to being made. It seems only natural then, that the Tesla Cybertruck’s price would also change. Just how much?

It isn’t clear exactly how much the Cybertruck will cost

While Musk didn’t say exactly how much the Tesla Cybertruck would cost once it finally reached production, it’s probably safe to say that it will be more than $39,900. In Tesla’s recent shareholder’s call, Musk confirmed that the price of the Tesla Cybertruck would have to change. He said that things like inflation have made the price of the Cybertruck go up.

Still, Musk has complete confidence in the Cybertruck. As The Verge noted, Musk called Tesla’s truck “one hell of a product” and a “damn fine machine.”

The price increase isn’t really a surprise

The Tesla Cybertruck’s price increase isn’t really a surprise. People assumed that something like this was coming when Tesla removed all Cybertruck pricing from its website. While beforehand, you could preorder a Cybertruck and commit to paying the low, low price of $39,900, the disappearance from any price information did hint that there would be some changes coming. Now Musk has confirmed that to be true.

So when will we finally see the Cybertruck? While Elon Musk certainly did not announce an exact release date, he did recently identify a time frame during which we can expect the Tesla Cybertruck to debut. During Tesla’s Q2 call, Musk said the Cybertruck will involve “another level of simplicity and manufacturing improvements.” He said the Cybertruck will enterproduction in mid-2023.

So yes, the Tesla Cybertruck just got more expensive, but that was kind of expected. The real question now is, just how much will the Cybertruck’s price increase? While it could be minimal, to offset inflation changes and parts increases, new design elements may also mean that the Tesla truck’s final cost could be much higher than originally anticipated. We’ll just have to wait and see.
