Honda employees save Tesla driver after a crash splits it in half
Bob Tiplady, a manager at Plymouth, Michigan’s Victory Honda dealership, was having an ordinary day last week. Suddenly, a Tesla flew past the sales lobby, crashed into a mailbox across the street, and launched into the air. Once airborne, the EV slammed into a car wash sign and landed in a parking lot before promptly splitting in half.
“I saw a disaster out there today,” Tiplady told FOX 2 Detroit. “I heard the noise, and we looked, and everyone started running outside. It was pretty bad.”
Tiplady’s sales employees quickly jumped into action and ran across the street. They worked hard to keep the driver awake before emergency medical vehicles arrived. The employees who helped reported the driver was alive despite the destruction.
“[The sales employees] were the first ones out there,” said Tiplady. “We’re really good people at Victory Honda.”
When paramedics arrived, the driver was quickly transferred to the hospital. Thankfully, hospital personnel stated the driver would likely live.
So, what caused the Tesla to crash?
The dealership’s security cameras caught the EV traveling at high speeds, but an ongoing investigation suggests a medical emergency may have happened behind the wheel.
Nothing has been mentioned as to whether or not any driver assists were in use before the crash.
This isn’t the first time a Tesla has been split in half during an accident. In 2020, a speeding Nissan GTR split a Tesla Model X in half. Thankfully everyone survived, but it shocked people to see such an expensive EV ripped in half.
Another incident was filmed in Hallandale Beach three years ago, where a car running a red light and speeding collided with a Tesla and split it in half.
