Consumer Reports tests and reviews many cars. Some shoppers think the reviews are accurate, but some folks may disagree. Regarding owner satisfaction, Consumer Reports think its score is usually correct. In the full-size luxury SUV segment, there is one terrible option the car critic thinks shoppers won’t like. Here’s a look at that terrible full-size luxury SUV Consumer Reports feels owners will hate. 

What the owner satisfaction score really means

Unlike the battery of tests Consumer Reports puts cars through, the owner satisfaction score is relatively simple. Every year, Consumer Reports will send out surveys to owners, asking them what they think and feel about their car. This survey has questions about the car’s driving experience, if its styling works, how comfortable it is, and if the car was a good value for the price.

However, the survey’s most critical question is whether or not owners want to buy their cars again. Folks who said “definitely yes” to this question are counted as satisfied owners. Additionally, the percentage of owners who said “definitely yes” becomes the owner satisfaction score that Consumer Reports gives to a car.

With that being said, the car critic isn’t able to get enough survey data on every single car model out there. That’s why sometimes it’ll use a predicted score. This score is, as Consumer Reports wrote, based on similar models of a car.

The 2022 Infiniti QX80 is a full-size luxury SUV that consumers will hate

In terms of predicted owner satisfaction scores, the car critic said the 2022 Infiniti QX80 is not only a terrible full-size luxury SUV but also an SUV that owners will hate. This Infiniti SUV had low or mediocre scores in multiple categories, including its predicted owner satisfaction score. In terms of its overall score, it was in the middle of the pack.

But in terms of its owner satisfaction score, it was at the very bottom. The QX80 had a worse predicted owner satisfaction score than its competitors, which was by a significant margin. Luxury SUVs like the Cadillac Escalade and the Mercedes-Benz GLS were more satisfying to own. The BMX X7 and the Lincoln Navigator were at the top, and they were even more enjoyable to own than the QX80.

However, the QX80’s scores were predicted scores. There was not enough data from owners for Consumer Reports to talk about what owners thought of the QX80’s driving experience, comfort features, or value.

While Consumer Reports didn’t have enough survey data on the QX80, test drivers did tests on the Infiniti SUV. Despite its poor overall score, it had many pros and few cons. Infiniti gave the QX80 one engine, a 5.6-liter V8 that got 400 hp, and this was a solid and powerful engine overall. In terms of its interior, it also did well.

The car has a lot of cargo capacity and a good amount of seat space. Its fit and finish were also good, and its cabin was nice and quiet on the road. Furthermore, Infiniti gave the QX80 a lot of smart safety features as standard. Its size does mean it has a few issues, though. For example, it can be difficult to step into the SUV because of its height. Its handling is “clumsy,” and that V8 engine gets a poor fuel economy of 15 mpg combined.
