The Ford Mustang is one of the most iconic sports cars in American history. Since its debut in the 60s, the Mustang has garnered a massive following and has evolved with the times in the most interesting ways. Over the years, Ford turned the Mustang into a notchback, a hatchback, and even into a full-on electric SUV to fit drivers of all tastes, shapes, and sizes. But when it comes to the current Mustang coupe, can tall drivers even fit in it?

Is the 2022 Ford Mustang good for tall people?

Yes. While the 2022 Ford Mustang fastback may look tight for tall drivers, it’s roomier than you may think. According to Ford, the Mustang coupe has 45.1 inches of leg room and 37.6 inches of headroom. That’s over three more inches of leg room than the Dodge Challenger and nearly two more inches than the Chevrolet Camaro.

In terms of real-world fitment, there are plenty of drivers over 6 feet, 5 inches tall stating on message forms like the Mustang Source that they fit in the car just fine. In most cases, sliding the front seat all the way back and adjusting the steering wheel for the best driver fitment is necessary. As far as the rear seat area goes, U.S. News notes that “even kids might feel squeezed in the back seat.” So don’t count on fitting anyone adult-sized back there.

How much cargo room does the Ford Mustang have?

The current Ford Mustang coupe has 13.5 cubic feet of trunk space while the convertible version has 2 cubic feet less. Regardless, that’s ample room for a couple of carry-on bags or a couple of golf bags, which is more spacious than most sports cars. However, if you want the most trunk space that any muscle car can provide, then the Dodge Challenger’s 16.2 cubic feet should work better for you.

What else does the Mustang come with?

Decent interior space and cargo volume aside, the 2022 Mustang most notably comes standard with a 310-hp turbocharged 2.3-liter engine, 17-inch alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers, and LED lighting. It also comes with an array of safety features like a forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with a cross-traffic alert, and lane-keeping assistance.

The infotainment system also includes Wi-Fi and app-link, however, the main drawback is that the screen is only 4.2-inches wide. Upgrading to the Premium trim level adds a larger 8-inch touchscreen as well as Apple Carplay and Android Auto. If you want more power, then adding the Performance package will up the pony count to 332 hp and the same 350 lb-ft of torque.

Fortunately, using 87-octane gas is ok with these lower trims despite their use of a turbocharger. The V6 trim level no longer exists, however, the 5.0-liter V8 still does. Those additional cylinders bring 140 more horsepower and cost about $10,000 more, but it’s well worth it if you’re looking for tried-and-true American muscle.

No matter which trim level you choose, the interior dimensions remain the same. As such, the Mustang can fit tall drivers just fine, as long as they are shorter than around 6 feet, 9 inches. Just remember to duck your head when getting into the car.
