holden
Holden was an Australian automotive manufacturing division of General Motors. In addition to its lineup of car models, Holden is most well known for offering rebadged (badge-engineered) models from General Motors marques and other separate brands, including Chevrolet, Isuzu, Nissan, Suzuki, Toyota, and more.
Holden was originally founded way back in 1856 as a saddlery (as in horse saddles) manufacturer in South Australia. In 1908 is moved into the field of automotive manufacturing and was acquired by General Motors in 1931, then being renamed General Motors-Holden. This was not the last name change, however. It was renamed Holden Ltd in 1998 and then GM Holden Ltd in 2005.
Due to the Australian economy and a lack of government subsidies, Holden faced rapid losses in the 2010s, leading to the decision to end vehicle production and close its plants by 2017. A few years later, in 2020, General Motors announced that the Holden brand would be retired and replaced by the GM Specialty Vehicles (GMSV) division, leading to Holden going defunct at the very end of 2020.
