g-class

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class (often referred to as the G-Wagon) is an off-road luxury SUV model produced and sold by Mercedes-Benz, a subsidiary of the Daimler AG multinational automotive corporation. Nearly in a class of its own, the G-Class is priced (though not sized) above the Mercedes-Benz GLS.

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class was initially developed as an off-road military vehicle due to a suggestion from the Shah of Iran, who was a significant shareholder in the company at the time. A civilian version dubbed the Mercedes-Benz W460 was released by Daimler-Benz in 1979, while the first military to use it in the field was the Argentine Army in 1981.

The first official generation of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class didn’t debut until 1990, where the off-road vehicle was transformed into a luxury model. Although originally intended to be replaced by the introduction of the Mercedes-Benz GLS SUV in 2006, the G-Class is still in production as one of the longest-produced vehicles in the company’s history. Its competition of huge off-road models includes the Land Rover Defender, the Lexus LX, and the Toyota Land Cruiser.

Pros: In addition to acting as a giant status symbol, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class luxury SUV provides plenty of customization options and unmatched off-road capabilities.
Cons: The G-Class’s square body isn’t very aerodynamic and generates wind noise, it’s not very engaging during on-road driving, and its enormous price tag is an obvious drawback.
