The Volkswagen Atlas is a midsize three-row SUV model from the Volkswagen Group. The Atlas is currently the largest vehicle produced by the Volkswagen brand. In VW’s SUV lineup, it is sized above the Taos subcompact SUV, the Tiguan compact SUV, and the ID.4 electric compact SUV. Additionally, the Atlas nameplate is offered with the Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport model, a two-row upscale and sporty version of the standard build.
The Volkswagen Atlas was introduced to the public at the 2016 LA Auto Show. It later went on sale in 2017 for the 2018 model year. The Atlas replaced the Volkswagen Touareg for American drivers. However, the Touareg nameplate continues to sell elsewhere in international markets. Additionally, outside of the U.S. and Chile, the Volkswagen Atlas is sold as the Volkswagen Teramont.
Still in its first generation, the Volkswagen Atlas is primarily known for its large amount of interior space marketed at a low price for its class. Its midsize and full-size SUV competitors include the Chevy Traverse, the Hyundai Palisade, the Subaru Ascent, and the Toyota Highlander.
