A Japanese SUV dethrones the Ford F-150 as best-selling vehicle
Pump the BREAKS! For the first time in decades, the Ford F-150 has lost its crown as the best-selling vehicle in America, where big trucks rule. It was outsold by a popular Japanese SUV, known as the Toyota RAV4.
The Toyota RAV4 outsells the Ford F-150
This is the first time in my entire life that the Ford F-150 isn’t the best-selling vehicle in America. It was the most popular vehicle for decades. However, the Toyota RAV4 just swopped in to steal its throne.
According to Ford Authority, the Toyota RAV4 sold 475,193 models in America during 2024. Then the F-150 landed in second place with 460,915 trucks.
But it wasn’t the only truck to slip. The Chevrolet Silverado is often the second best-selling vehicle in America, but it dropped to fourth place. It sold 344,022 trucks in America during 2024. The Honda CR-V is in third place with 402 sales and the Tesla Model Y had 371,613 sales.
At one time, the Ram 1500 was the third best-selling vehicle in America. However, in 2024, it didn’t even crack the top 10. In 2024, it was the 13th best-selling model with 200,006 sales.
The Ram 1500 had a year-over-year sales decline of 26%. Even though the Toyota RAV4 had a year-over-year sales increase of 9% while F-150 sales decreased by 5%. Overall car sales increased by 3%, rising to the highest volume of sales since the pandemic hit.
More drivers might be switching to smaller SUVs due to price increases and the higher cost of fuel. I can’t wait to see how new tariffs impact these trends in 2025.
