What’s even more elusive than a Ford Bronco? A Ford Bronco Raptor is an automotive unicorn. Few will ever see one up close in real life. After a few trips to fill up this thirsty SUV’s tank, the lucky few drivers who own a Bronco Raptor may not feel so lucky.

Off-road SUVs are usually notoriously thirsty, and the Bronco Raptor is no exception. The Bronco chugs gas with 20 miles per gallon in the city and 21 miles per gallon on the highway, but the Bronco Raptor guzzles it.

The 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor gets a measly 15 miles per gallon in the city and 16 miles per gallon on the highway. Factor in today’s high gas prices, and filling up the expensive off-road SUV packs a wallop. The Bronco Raptor’s fuel economy is poor, but do the off-road SUV’s many standard features make it worth the money?

The 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor starts at $68,500. According to Motor1, it uses a 3.0-liter V6 engine to make a mighty 418 horsepower.

The Bronco Raptor is 191 inches long, 86.9 inches wide, and 77.8 inches tall. That’s one big Bronco. It comes standard with two front and rear tow hooks, rock rails with a removable running board, and heavy-duty steel bash plates. The doors and top are all removable. The off-road SUV comes with standard heated front seats.

The 2022 Bronco Raptor also includes Ford’s Terrain Management System, a sport leather steering wheel with paddle shifters, and intelligent access with push-button start. The off-road SUV features two powerpoints, rubberized flooring with drain plugs, and a 12.0-inch LCD digital instrument cluster.

Suspension upgrades include the standard Raptor HOSS 4.0 system with Fox Live Valve 3.1 internal bypass semi-active dampers. The Bronco Raptor comes with massive 37.0-inch all-terrain tires.

The 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor is a true desert runner. The Blue Oval claims that the SUV is built for “grueling desert running and rock crawling.” Professional Desert Racer Shelby Hall put the Bronco Raptor to the test in the short clip above.

The Bronco Raptor is extremely capable off-road, but it’s tough to justify purchasing one if you cannot tackle gnarly terrain regularly. This Bronco is made for a select few between its high price tag and poor gas mileage.
