Subaru vehicles are among the most reliable on the market. In fact, the brand recently overtook Toyota vehicles on a few notable rankings. Still, like all automakers, Subaru isn’t perfect, and its cars have some problems. A group of auto mechanics recently took to social media to highlight some of the brand’s most significant issues that buyers should know. Notably, Subaru is known for head gasket issues, but the mechanics highlighted a few more problems.

Subaru vehicles are reliable, but no automaker is perfect

Recently, the auto mechanics from the Accurate Auto Inc. TikTok account took to the internet to share some of the most common issues they see with Subaru vehicles. There were five mechanics in the video, and spoiler alert: They all highlighted Subaru’s problem with head gaskets. Still, like all car makers, there are other malfunctions that people considering a new or used model should be aware of.

One of the issues the auto mechanics mentioned was leaks, specifically power steering and oil leaks. While power steering leaks are said to be common for Subaru vehicles, many agree that this is the case for older models and isn’t super prevalent after 2009. The same is true for oil leaks, which the automaker has mostly fixed. However, it’s not uncommon for vehicles from any automaker to sometimes experience oil leaks.

For better or worse, Subaru vehicles are known for their use of continuously variable transmissions. Naturally, this also came up in the video as many people, including auto mechanics, feel the CVT is unreliable. In fact, this is a deal breaker for many buyers as they prefer a regular automatic transmission. Still, this group of mechanics says drivers should be most concerned with head gasket issues. Signs of this problem include the engine overheating, white smoke from the exhaust system, and various leaks.
