Subaru is readying itself for some serious turbocharged Boxer power at the track this season. The Japanese automaker has officially announced that it will campaign a brand-new race car, dubbed the SUBARU HIGH PERFORMANCE X VersionⅡ, in the upcoming 2026 ENEOS Super Taikyu Series.
The aggressive new track weapon will make its highly anticipated debut at the Round 1 Motegi Super Taikyu 4 Hours Race, held at the Mobility Resort Motegi in Tochigi Prefecture on March 21st and 22nd, 2026.
A Familiar but Evolved Boxer Beast
Built under the guiding philosophy of “making a car that is more easily enjoyable,” the High Performance X Version II is heavily based on Subaru’s existing architecture. Following in the footsteps of its predecessor, the High Performance X Future Concept, this new iteration is powered by a heavily massaged version of Subaru’s famous FA24 2.4-liter horizontally opposed turbo engine.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a true Subaru performance car without all-wheel drive. The racer utilizes the brand’s legendary Symmetrical AWD system, specifically featuring a modified DCCD (Driver’s Control Center Differential) to lay down the power. Purists will also be thrilled to hear that it retains a proper 6-speed manual transmission.

Key Specs for the High Performance X Version II:
- Engine: FA24 Boxer DOHC 16-valve AVCS Twin-Scroll Turbo (2,387cc)
- Output: 364 PS (approx. 359 horsepower) and 475 Nm of torque (approx. 350 lb-ft)
- Transmission: 6-speed manual (6MT)
- Drivetrain: Symmetrical AWD with modified DCCD
- Wheels & Tires: 18x10J BBS wheels wrapped in Bridgestone 260/660 R18 rubber
- Brakes: 6-piston front calipers / 4-piston rear calipers

Racing for a Carbon-Neutral Future
Subaru isn’t just racing for trophies; it’s using the grueling environment of endurance motorsport as a high-speed laboratory. Since entering the Super Taikyu series in 2022, Subaru has been actively exploring the future survival of the internal combustion engine by running its vehicles on alternative energy sources.
The High Performance X Version II will run on E20 low-carbon fuel. By utilizing the exceptionally short, agile development cycles demanded by motorsport, Subaru aims to rapidly test and verify new technologies that will eventually trickle down into their consumer road cars, all while contributing to a carbon-neutral society.
For the 2026 season, Team SDA Engineering has made it clear that they are deeply committed to “winning.” The squad will be led by Representative Masahito Motoi and Chief Engineer Susumu Ito.
