Only 1 Subaru SUV Isn’t Recommended by Consumer Reports

Subaru makes a lot of great cars, and most Subarus get great reviews from both car critics and customers. Although Consumer Reports recommend most Subaru SUVs, there is one that did not score very well and was not recommended as a result. Here’s a look at the one Subaru SUV Consumer Reports doesn’t recommend for customers.

Consumer Reports currently recommend three Subaru SUVs, and unsurprisingly, they all received great scores. The Forester is the highest-rated Subaru SUV right now, and it’s also the best SUV in its segment. It has a high overall score, and its road test score was high too. Both its predicted reliability and predicted owner satisfaction rated highly.

The next recommended Subaru SUV is the Crosstrek. Like the Forester, the Crosstrek is the best SUV in its segment. Its road test, predicted owner satisfaction, and overall scores were high. Its predicted reliability rating received a perfect score.

The last recommended Subaru SUV is the Outback. Once again, the Outback is the highest-rated SUV in its segment. Its road test and overall score were high. That being said, the Outback’s predicted reliability score was mediocre, but it ranked high for the predicted owner satisfaction score.

Unlike those well-rated SUVs, the Ascent has a significantly worse score. Consumer Reports gave it an overall mediocre score, and this reflects two main facts about the third-row Subaru SUV. The Ascent actually has a really good road test score, but unfortunately, it also has a really bad predicted reliability score.

Its predicted owner satisfaction rating is average. On top of that, Consumer Reports wrote that the Ascent only really has one other significant issue, and that has to do with its agility. Regardless, this Subaru’s abysmal reliability score sank its overall score, and as a result, it’s only ranked 11th in its segment. And of course, that low score also means that Consumer Reports does not recommend the car.

Subaru has one SUV upcoming that customers should look out for

Customers looking to buy a Subaru SUV will have another vehicle to consider, though. The 2023 Subaru Solterra is Subaru’s first-ever EV, and it’s also an SUV. Consumer Reports hasn’t tested the Solterra out yet, but given Subaru’s good track record with SUVs, the Solterra should perform quite well.

Like other Subaru SUVs, the Solterra is designed to go off-road, but it can also be used as a daily driver. It has two electric motors that give it all-wheel drive, but those motors aren’t ridiculously powerful as the Solterra only makes about 218 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque. Its range is also pretty modest at about 220 miles. Like other Subaru SUVs, the Solterra should come with a long list of smart safety features.
