It’s no secret that Subaru and Toyota have been twinning! They have been helping each other build electric SUVs but they know drivers want a compact truck. Toyota and Subaru could be developing compact trucks that will both come to America.

Toyota might be helping Subaru build a compact truck

Subaru and Toyota have found common ground as they work together to build SUVs. For example, the Subaru Solterra and Toyota bZ4X were developed together and only have minor differences.

Partnering on this project went so well that the automakers decided to develop more SUVs together. However, now their attention is turning to compact trucks.

I’ve already been obsessed with rumors about the new compact Toyota truck, which is based on the RAV4 or Corolla Cross. However, now Subaru is getting involved. The new BRAT could be extremely similar to the compact truck that Toyota is developing.

According to Torque News, the Toyota Stout and Subaru Brat are rumored to be in the works. While most journalists expect these trucks to be electric, they could be hybrid instead. This would help them tackle the Ford Maverick.

Evidence points to Toyota benchmarking the Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz instead of electric trucks like the Rivian R1T. The trucks are expected to be lifestyle options built on a unibody frame.

If you want a truck that’s better equipped for off-roading then the Toyota Tacoma has a body-on-frame build. Plus, Toyota has 11 factories in the United States and Subaru has one. The trucks could be built in the same location to skirt around tariffs.
