Since its introduction, the Subaru Ascent has been a popular three-row SUV. Subaru Wilderness vehicles are models that have been optimized for usage both on and off the road. They typically offer higher ground clearance and more capability. Currently, both the 2022 Forester and 2022 Outback offer the Wilderness trim. With the option coming to the Crosstrek at some point down the line.

Subaru is expected to refresh the Ascent in 2022. With the Wilderness trim gaining in popularity, it would only make sense that Subaru give its three-row SUV the Wilderness treatment. According to Automotive News, that is a possibility.

By offering a Wilderness trim to the Ascent, Subaru would be providing shoppers with an SUV that is ready to handle rugged conditions. This would be ideal for families who enjoy the outdoors and going on adventures. It would also set the Ascent apart from other three-row SUVs.

What are the trim levels of the Subaru Ascent?

The Subaru Ascent is currently available in five trim levels. These include the Subaru Ascent base, Premium, Onyx Edition, Limited, and Touring. Each trim offers something unique, which means shoppers can get the right amount of SUV for their specific needs.

It is expected that in 2024 the Subaru Ascent will receive a full-overhaul. So Subaru may be waiting until the second generation to provide their largest SUV with the Wilderness trim.

Considering features like standard AWD and safety tech, the Subaru Ascent marks itself as a contender for a solid vehicle. While other vehicles may require you to opt for AWD, the Ascent was built to be dedicated to this drivetrain.

This SUV also has the ability to tow up to 5,000 pounds and has up to 153.5 cubic feet of passenger space. Giving it some serious utility. Better yet, the Ascent comes with 8.7-inches of ground clearance and a system to help handle rugged terrain.

The Ascent can seat either seven or eight passengers. And it also boasts 19 cup and bottle holders. Additionally, the Ascent features a number of standard safety features. Which adds to its qualifications as a family-friendly SUV.

All of that said, Subaru would be taking the Ascent to the next level with a Wilderness package. Not only would the SUV receive more ground clearance, but likely rugged looks as well. Putting the SUV in a highly competitive position in a crowded segment.

Only time will tell how Subaru decides to expand its Wilderness lineup. As it does, outdoor enthusiasts can hope that it comes to this three-row SUV. If it does, it is sure to be a popular seller.
