Street racing is a massive issue in several parts of the country, as it poses significant safety risks for everyone in the vicinity. Recently, police in Georgia broke up what would have become a large street racing operation. This ended with several citations and even some arrests. Now, law enforcement officers are warning others of this crime.

Street racing often leads to massive arrests due to the harm it can cause

According to Fox 5 Atlanta, police officers in DeKalb County were alerted to a massive gathering at a park on Rockbridge. This happened on May 10th at around 1:15 a.m. Of course, based on local laws, the park was closed to the public at that time. After arriving, the police learned that over 100 people were present. They then blocked them all from leaving to investigate the street racing attempt.

Additionally, due to the large crowd, the officers called for backup from other precincts, including the Stone Mountain and Lithonia police departments. After some time, the police on the scene began issuing citations, but not for street racing. Instead, they wrote 100 citations for them being in the park after dark. It doesn’t end there, as one person from the group was arrested due to an outstanding warrant. Notably, the warrant was from another jurisdiction. It’s unclear what the warrant was for.

Following the attempted street racing event, the police believe they have identified the organizer. This revelation came as they unearthed surveillance footage showing a person linked to other street racing events. The person now has a warrant for their arrest. Part of the warrant says that the unnamed person will be barred from DeKalb County parks and two other areas known for this illegal activity. According to the police department, “We have zero tolerance for such events that disrupt and endanger our community.”
