Street racers found out the hard way that they couldn’t speed away from the Harris County Police in Texas, despite racing a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 and an Audi RS6 Avant.
According to a Facebook post by Mark Herman, Harris County Constable Precinct 4, deputies made a traffic stop in the 24500 block of Northwest Freeway outside of Houston after spotting two cars racing on the highway at high speeds.
The police managed to arrest both suspects and took them into custody for racing on the highway.
The images show a gray Mustang Shelby GT500 with twin white stripes, which produces 760 hp and 625 lb-ft of torque, courtesy of its supercharged 5.2-liter V8 motor.

Police images also show the Audi RS6 Avant, a high-performance luxury wagon. Its latest iterations sport a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, producing 621 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque.
According to a post by Carscoops, racing on the highway is mostly treated as a Class B misdemeanor, which can attract a fine of $2,000 and/or up to six months in jail.
But punishment could become a Class A misdemeanor, meaning higher fines and more jail time if the driver has been convicted in the past, or if they were driving under the influence, or had an open container of alcohol in the vehicle. Under certain conditions, the offense may rise to the level of a felony.
It is unclear if the drivers tried to flee from the police, especially since both cars were packed with well over 600 hp each.
MotorBiscuit reported another incident involving a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, this time a white one with double blue stripes, which lost control and crashed into a school bus head-on.
The incident highlights the responsibility that comes with driving such fast cars in crowded areas, especially for drivers not used to handling more than 700 hp on a regular basis.
A video of the incident shows the driver accelerating the Mustang, braking hard within a few feet, and veering into the lane of the oncoming school bus. Fortunately, the school bus driver, the children, and the driver of the Mustang escaped without injuries.
