Stolen Bentley Continental With Puppy Inside Leads to Sudden Change of Heart in Florida

When thieves stole a 2024 Bentley Continental from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, little did they know that a 6-month-old black poodle named Coco was inside the car. Despite driving off with the puppy inside, Coco was reunited with its owner the following morning.

According to CBS News, Fort Lauderdale police are now searching for the suspect, who approached the unlocked Bentley in a residential neighborhood, where it had been left in the driveway with the key fob inside.

The owner was reportedly engaged in conversation with a friend nearby when the thief snuck up to the car and drove off. Poor Coco was also in the luxury car. Fortunately, though, the suspects dropped off Coco nearby instead of taking it with them.

Coco was found the next morning and reunited with the owner. The owner’s daughter, Becky Irvine, said it was a miracle to have Coco back. She said:

“We do believe that this was a miracle. The fact that this car was taken so quickly and then [Coco] recovered just a street over, everything fell into place so that we could be reunited with her again.”

Police Advises Residents to Remain Cautious

The incident seems to have frightened Coco. Irvine said that she took the puppy to a local veterinary clinic, where it was declared fit.

As Fort Lauderdale Police investigate the theft of the Bentley Continental, residents have been asked not to leave valuables inside vehicles even for a short time. Most importantly, they have been urged not to leave vehicles unlocked in the driveway.

Fort Lauderdale Police Sgt. Patrick O’Brien said that this time it was Coco who got taken away, but tomorrow it could be a child, or even a firearm that could be used against someone, warning the residents to remain alert and leave no room for error. He said:

“It was a dog today. It could be a gun tomorrow. It could be your child. You know you always have to remember to take everything out of your vehicle.”
