The St. Louis police have taken drastic measures to prevent street takeovers like the one that happened on March 14, where suspects were shooting at each other using assault rifles. Not only that, a marked police SUV was surrounded by a huge crowd. The law-and-order situation has prompted authorities to impose a weekend curfew for juveniles.
Street takeovers can turn deadly in no time, and a clear example was the recent incident at the intersection of Gravois Avenue and Morgan Ford Road. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department received multiple calls from people reporting reckless driving, traffic being blocked, and fireworks.
The matter escalated further when the police reached the location, where the spot was blocked by multiple cars. A police SUV was also surrounded by a crowd. It is reported that seven people were injured by gunfire. A video on YouTube shows one shooter firing an assault rifle in public view at a busy junction, highlighting the danger to the people around.
There was chaos everywhere. One woman was also reported to have been thrown out of a vehicle while hanging out of it. Fortunately, she escaped life-threatening injuries. Eventually, the police arrested several individuals by force. It used spike strips on around 50 vehicles to prevent the suspects from escaping.

However, since large crowds are difficult to control beyond a point, the St. Louis police have introduced a juvenile curfew starting this weekend from 10 pm to 5 am for individuals aged 17 and below. This applies to three nights: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The police stated on X:
“This weekend, there will be a 10 pm-5 am curfew for young people (17 and younger) in the Downtown and Downtown West neighborhoods. This is precautionary to ensure St. Louisans stay safe. Parents will be held responsible for the behavior of their children. #STL“
The police also stated that “Parents will be held responsible for the behavior of their children,” as reported by Carscoops. The police released several images and videos of the suspects and are now urging the public to identify those involved in the street takeover. A statement read:
“Our officers remained professional in a very difficult situation, but their safety was placed at risk. The SLMPD is asking for the public’s help in identifying those involved in this street takeover, which led to the marked patrol unit being surrounded.
“Residents and visitors have the right to enjoy our city — but dangerous and reckless behavior like this will not be tolerated.”
