Henry, a chihuahua mix hailing from San Diego, California, was spotted by Adam Fischer during his commute on the 5. He slowed down for the little dog to keep him from being struck by a car. Not long after he started recording, he noticed other drivers were pulling to the side to herd the dog off of the busy freeway.

“We’re trying to not let him get onto the street,” said Fischer behind the wheel, quoted by FOX 11. “But no one can catch it. He just keeps going.”

A mile down the road, Fischer, and a handful of other drivers stopped traffic and formed a barrier to box Henry in. But it proved to be in vain.

“People are trying to get him, but he just won’t let them,” he said. “This dude’s ran, like, 10 miles and he won’t let anyone grab him. This whole highway is stopped because everyone’s trying to save this dog. This is wild.”

Fischer kept recording because he couldn’t go on foot

While Fischer may have initiated the rescue, his condition at the time kept him in his vehicle and behind the camera.

“I’m on crutches right now so I can’t chase after him, but everyone else keeps stopping to try and grab him,” he said. “This is actually crazy. This dog has run all the way from downtown to the zero exit, and he’s just not tired.”

Finally, 10 miles later, Henry’s efforts catch up with him and he retreats under a parked Toyota Highlander. A man climbed underneath the SUV, pulled the dog from underneath, and used a leash to restrain him.

“This is your daily traffic report from the 5,” Fischer said before concluding the video.

Don’t worry—the chihuahua got a good nap

When Henry was finally caught, a police officer walked up to his captor. From there, the officer took Henry to the local shelter, where he was given water and checked for a microchip.

After some rest, Henry was reunited with his owners.

Viewers of FOX 11’s YouTube video were touched by everyone’s efforts to catch the dog.

“Faith in humanity restored!” wrote a viewer.

Someone else remarked Henry should try out for professional sports with that spring.

“That little dog is in a league of his own, like a superbowl,” they wrote.

Another noted he may have been on a foodie mission, given his location.

“That’s a SoCal dog, he’s just trying to get some tacos,” they joked.
