There are a lot of really creative wedding proposals out there. Most are elaborate, extra-thoughtful displays of the love and dedication someone has for their partner. In perusing Superfly reels – Dana Carvey and David Spade’s pod – I came across their discussion of a wedding proposal involving a Peugeot wagon that was nothing short of cringeworthy, if not terrifying.

In it, a guy has a group of his friends mask up and board a huge commercial van. The “carjackers” pull over his Peugeot wagon (which, for what it’s worth, looks something like an older but clean 308).

One dude jumps on the hood and starts smashing the windshield. Others surround the Peugeot, breaking all the door glass, including the rear hatch window. The group takes the driver and brings him to the van, where they shut him inside.

The girlfriend shrieks hysterically the whole time.

Promptly, the van door reopens and stud emerges with a huge flower bouquet. Surprise! It’s a proposal, girl, be happy!

Um, what the hell? No. Nope. Never.

PSA: no one should do this to another human.

Let’s talk about the Peugeot 308 for half a second

Admittedly, it’s hard to see exactly which model is in that awful marriage proposal clip, so I’ll speak in generalities here. A French family established Peugeot in 1810. Stellantis now owns the brand. While Peugeot is known as the “oldest car company in the world,” it didn’t manufacture a vehicle until 1889. As such, it can’t claim the first automobile, which is the Benz Patent-Motorwagen via Carl Benz, circa 1886. Over the years, the brand produced everything from pepper grinders to bicycles.

Some would say the 308 runs parallel to the VW Golf. It’s a compact, sporty wagon that was subtly facelifted in 2018. It’s not necessarily known for breathtaking performance (it sure does have its fans and followers, don’t get me wrong) but more as a stylish, efficient, low-cost kick-around-towner with a bit of a punch.
